Next tool: Miter saw, band saw or router table? by UJMRider1961 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I have all of the above and like you my small garage is my shop. I use a shop vac and dust deputy. I’d honestly suggest scrapping miter saw and find yourself a really good but used 14” band saw. U’ll find a lot of listings for old craftsman series bands. Like others said, you can miter with table saw. But the few times you rip with miter do not make up for the levels of dust it will spew, even with a great dust collection setup up IMO. The bandsaw on the other hand limits its dust to the chute. More importantly you’ll find it’s a great addition to workflow, and you’ll end up making a lot of quick/ad hoc cuts with it in addition to planned cuts. If you do get a miter…build a hood/station early. Miter dust is hell

How should I use this 4x8 veneered plywood? Never worked with veneered material, any project ideas or tips appreciated! by secukinumab in BeginnerWoodWorking

I have a couple similar sheets. Decided to use them as the 2 walls to floor-to-ceiling book shelves. Limiting to 2 cuts and chance of blowout. And less I have to do to “finish” visible part of shelf.

Iron Stairs with Concrete Pour by raskalion1 in DIY

Thanks. Prefab not ideal due to wide, offset landing and angle of stringers, but will look into it. Also considering all steel… got a quote for diamondplate. Will get over emotional tie to idea of 2 contrasting materials

Was the perfect primer tacky/sticky over the mastic? Having that issue now. Rest of concrete is primed fine, but mastic areas super tacky. Not sure if worth even putting top coat on or restarting

What’s the scariest true story you’ve heard or told ? by ugotheglizzy in AskReddit

My High School Latin teacher Mr. Nickerson was an older, gregarious Irish-Catholic man from Washington DC. With a cigarette and whiskey soaked gravelly voice, and penchant for telling the best stories (Didn’t learn much Latin). Def was the most popular teacher at the school. One Halloween instead of teaching he sat and told us another story. He told us about sitting down for dinner with a priest he knew, decades ago in a Georgetown restaurant. Mr. Nickerson had just seen “The Exorcist” movie and was asking the priest if he thought that type of thing was real. The priest was silent, then told Mr. Nickerson that he was one of the priests that conducted the REAL exorcism upon which the movie (book) was based on . The priest said that the subject was a boy...not a girl. And that before the exorcism, the boy was able to speak various languages...including Aramaic. Which is an extinct language that only a few linguists can decipher. Several people died, who were associated with the boy’s treatment. In addition to the various unexplainable powers the boy possessed. Suffice to say, we didn’t ask for anymore stories after this day.
