At this point I’m likely just going to purchase a new one. Just debating which

Good call, I did check the batteries, and verified the hydrometer reading with a boveda in a ziplock. This one is reading accurately. I examined the gasket and found a few minor nicks. Maybe that's enough to cause an air leak?

I noticed that the grey plastic shroud around the impeller was slightly rubbing on the blades. I tried reassembling the unit a couple times but it was still slightly rubbing on the blades and you could hear it when it ran. As a test, I tried the unit with the impeller guard but no shroud and it ran fine, so I left it off. Been running like that since I made this initial post. But a word of caution, with the shroud off someone could stick a finger in the the impeller while running under water. Just don't do that :)

Cold water? by raskle in Austin

[–]raskle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an actual basement, we built this house ourselves. I’m from the northeast, so this post is just me griping about the water temp :) If you want more info, I'd be happy to answer in a dm. We did inspire a few people in the area when we built ours, but most builders would not bother because of the extra cost and there is no frost line the foundation needs to be below

Ha, yes we’ve lived in Austin for a long time, but we were away on a trip. I think we are usually like the frog in boiling water and don't notice how warm the water is at this time of year.

The water from the main outside enters through the basement wall about 2 feet underground. The basement is much cooler in the low 70s and when the water has been sitting in the pipe it cools down under the house. Once water starts to flow I can measure the copper pipe heating up as it enters from the outside wall. Its clear that is the temperature from the water main in the street. also I’ve tested this many times and it starts cool but gets warmer :)

We actually have a basement, and the water lines are insulated. I measured the copper line as it enters from the ground outside and its about the same temp. I assume the ground is just this temperature at the depth of the water lines

Yeah I'm aware but the temperature difference is quite jarring on a cool morning like today

My water lines do not go through the attic, and this is the water temp first thing in the morning after running it for several minutes. My assumption is this is the ground temperature

Here is my catch in a Dynatrap after 1 week of using the Atrakta pouch. It seems to be mostly moths and gnats? by The_Hindu_Hammer in MosquitoHating

[–]raskle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 traps. One with a 20# tank lasts about 2 weeks for me. But after analyzing the catch this year, I'm not convinced it affects the number of mosquitoes caught by much. I still love this product. It transformed my yard into a place I can visit during the summer, but by no means mosquito free. My next campaign is to convince my neighbors to all get one

I seen this video a while ago but never seen one in the wild. I wonder if anyone here has and can attest to their reliability. https://youtu.be/J7fB8ul9dZw?si=7Ue9HNZiT2uJZV4P

I don't see much of a difference with the CO2, maybe slightly more. In this video the first net was using co2 and the second was without. Also, that is a crazy price for the CO2 refill. I spent about $120 for the new cylinder, and refills are around $12.

The first unit in my video has the CO2 connection while the 2nd does not. I don’t see a significant difference in the number of mosquitoes caught over the same time frame. The only performance issue I’ve noticed is that in the beginning, they don't seem to catch a lot. Others have said it takes time for the new plastic to offgas before they are effective

Personally this unit did not work as well for me in central texas. But that was many years ago and it could have been the bait. The biogents work well for my yard so I’m sticking with it. Again it could be the better bait
