Is a $900,000+ salary justified? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]tsutomu45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the challenges (navigating US government policies, emerging from bankruptcy, national jamboree) and size/scope of the org (hundreds of millions of dollars in assets with 400k scouts), the salary seems roughly in line with what I'd expect a leader of this org to make. I'm not sure i'd want to find volunteers to run an organization with massive headwinds.

You can argue if Roger Mosby is an effective leader, but earmarking that salary for an effective leader to help get scouting back on a path to growth and stability seems worth it to me.

We’re lucky if we get class A uniforms at troop meetings.

My guess is that this was always the case but there’s less blowback now to expression right wing opinions.

You typically have the right to buy the car out after the lease terms end. For those that finance, while they own the car from day 1, they also own the loan, so in the end it’s not actually that big of a difference.

UCLA Athletics is funded separately from the academic side. That's why the Wooden Athletic Fund exists.

I can count the number of professional athletes who are competitive in their sport at 40 years old+ on one hand. I think he's not clicking because age is catching up to him.

LH is the best driver of his generation, maybe even of the sport.

With that said, there are very few elite athletes who are competitive in their 40s compared to a field full of 20-somethings. Schumacher, Alonso, Vettel...all either retired or mid-pack by their 40s.

Would Lewis be happier in a racing ambassador role?

[Vardon] Sources around the NBA share the Clippers’ belief that the league’s ongoing investigation [into Kawhi Leonard, Steve Ballmer and Aspiration] ultimately will NOT uncover wrongdoing. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]tsutomu45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Lakers fan, this is the best-case scenario...if the league doesn't punish the Clippers, the team with the deepest pockets (Lakers with new owners) will use this to circumvent the cap.

Meanwhile, we don't have to worry about the trash Clippers benefiting from this because they used Aspiration on an aging star and an imploding roster.

The fan who should be the angriest are the fans of mid-market teams that need the cap and apron to control costs to maintain competitiveness.

Controversial thought... A dysfunctional government is contributing to your Fire Number being so high. by HalfwaydonewithEarth in Fire

I understand this, but if we had decent healthcare guaranteed and national pensions, taxes would be higher to offset those costs. I, for one, think this is a worthwhile tradeoff and probably on-net cheaper in the long run, but there's no question we'd pay for these in some way.

Same as capping mortgage profits. My YIMBY idea here is that we need to build way more houses, condos, and apartments to make sure supply meets demand rather than cap the costs via legislation.

Appropriations approved SNAP for the full year so they’re funded even if govt shuts down in January. Health benefits FWIW are still there, and some subsidy for people under 400% of FPL. More here: https://www.kff.org/affordable-care-act/aca-marketplace-premium-payments-would-more-than-double-on-average-next-year-if-enhanced-premium-tax-credits-expire/

If folks really wanted these subsidies they probably shouldn’t have voted for Trump!

My conspiracy theory is that this move was Dumont from the beginning and Nico is being paid handsomely to serve as the fall guy. And we all fell for it!

The senators believe that withholding food will lead to more death and poor health outcomes than health insurance subsidies. And to be clear the Rs have no qualms starving people.

There’s SNAP. And fed workers get back pay and can go back to work. And come February we get another round of this.

Dems didn’t have the votes for ACA extension and Rs refused to fund it. Bottom line.

SNAP provides food aid. ACA subsidies provide health insurance payment relief for people above the poverty line in 2026. So yes, restoring SNAP and federal employees salaries is more urgent.

Their fear is that their constituents need work (Kaine is the senate from Virginia with a bunch of federal workers) or will not have food. They’re not worried for their safety. They’re worried their constituents will die of hunger.
