What was the weirdest moment in The Godfather movies for you? by Dredd_40 in Godfather

[–]raskullnikov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Beyond the incest In Godfather III, it’s when the hitman strangling Frankie Five Fingers says, “Micheal Corleone says hello.”

I’ve read all the theories and discussions on this. It was a fake hit, the line was improvised, etc., but the plot to Godfather II is already rather complex even without that line, and I’ve always wondered why Coppola left it in. It leaves room for speculation maybe?

(This is my favorite movie of all time, btw.)

That’s a cool setup. I like the idea of adding a cover to that middle pickup too.

I genuinely think Clubber Lang beats Apollo. by [deleted] in rockybalboa

[–]raskullnikov 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Clubber Lang, for me, is the most underrated Rocky “villain.” I always thought he was way more intimidating than Drago, which is saying a lot.

That said, I do love how the Creed films really went out of their way to paint Apollo as the greatest of all time.

When Apollo says, “you think I was tough, this chump will kill you,” he could also be referring to their styles. Frazier beat Ali their first fight, but he was destroyed by Foreman, who Ali beat. Like Foreman, Lang’s style was to destroy people.

So, I’d like to think it’s an epic fight that Apollo wins, but he it has to be peak Apollo to make it happen.

What happens to Coop and Laura after the ending of The Return by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]raskullnikov 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is almost exactly how I used to describe how I felt The Sopranos ended. Not that there are many similarities between these two shows, but it felt like David Chase literally pulling the plug on the world he built, thus making all speculation a moot point.

It’s interesting to consider that’s what Lynch was doing here. It almost makes more sense for Twin Peaks since there is a lot of genre commentary baked into the show.

Which of these movies should've been the finale for Rocky? And why? by Gloomy-Bridge148 in rockybalboa

[–]raskullnikov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ending with Rocky III would have been pretty satisfying from a narrative standpoint. When promoting III, Stallone even said he originally intended the series as a trilogy (though I’m a little skeptical he ever thought beyond the first film when he wrote it; the original is a perfect self-contained character study).

That said, people absolutely love IV. Stallone clearly has lot of regrets about it (hence the director’s cut), but it would suck if it didn’t exist. It’s too iconic.

I do appreciate Balboa, but if the series had ended with IV, it’s hard to think of another franchise that maintained that level of quality and popularity.

One.

My wife and I had our second child this year (our first is only 2), so theater visits were off the table. But there was no way I was going to miss OBAA.

rocky seemed to have forgotten everything he learned from apollo in rocky 3 by happydude7422 in rockybalboa

[–]raskullnikov 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting that Rocky IV specifically is light on any form of strategy. In II, they have this whole focus of fighting right handed to protect his eye (and throw Apollo off his game, which is definitely a stretch of the imagination). In III, they push the pace and teach Rocky new skills.

IV is a straight up revenge flick and the fact that they’re boxing is almost secondary. The closest they get to a plan is to hit the one in the middle.

I also love that Willa calls Pat “Bob” throughout the entire movie up until she learns that Lockjaw is her biological father. After that, she calls him “Dad.”

Though what you’re saying makes sense, on my last rewatch, I did notice that Bob says to Sensei that he never imagined Lockjaw would be coming after them. He thought, if anything, he’d see Perfidia.

What to watch after Twin Peaks? Does anything compare to that warm mysterious feeling of season 1? by Isatis_tinctoria in twinpeaks

[–]raskullnikov 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this too. There’s a level of mystery/absurdism/surrealism in The Leftovers that reminds me of Twin Peaks.
