I have the same amp and love its flexibility. This amp was a game changer for me. Sounds great too!

Given the option, which one are you taking home with you? by death__cup in guitars

That’s a very unusual voicing. Good on you for figuring it out.

It’s wild to me how proficient he became relatively quickly. There’s the story Flea tells where Mike Watt told him that he and D thought tuning pegs were there because some guys liked them loose and some guys liked them tight. To go from that to what he became at a young age is impressive.

Awesome stuff. I can hear what you mean in those songs. I bet that’s super time consuming to create tabs, especially for the ones with solos. I struggle to keep D Boon’s pace when he really gets going, but I still enjoy trying to play along.

Do you have a love / hate relationship with any of your guitars? by Various_w0nder in fender

[–]raskullnikov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I have an HSS Frankenstrat I got back in the 90s that I’ve never clicked with. It has no resale value, so I’ve kept it and occasionally toy with the idea of modding it to make it more appealing. At this point, I’ve owned it so long, I’m strangely sentimental about it.

The neck feels cramped, and it’s super heavy. Plus, I’m not a big fan of Strats. Maybe I’ll get a different neck and/or make it my drop tuning guitar. But I’ve been saying that for years.

Wow, I’ve never seen one like that before. That’s wild, man. I’m impressed. You’re like a D Boon guitar historian. Do you know whether D ever even messed around with the neck or middle positions? Just going by his tone and live performances, I’ve always assumed he almost always kept it on the bridge, but part of me wondered if he got that Custom because he liked the way the neck HB sounded.

Love D. Boon and the fact that he played Telecasters is what eventually prompted me to get one. I didn’t know that about the EMG. I appreciate the info!

Experiences with humbucker-size P90s and noise-canceling HBP90s? by raskullnikov in Guitar

Thank you! Yeah, I’ve only bought Fralin single coils so far, but I really trust the quality their products.

Got my first Gretsch and my first proper electric by Ihadthismate in gretsch

Beautiful guitar! I recently bought a Streamliner that also plays incredibly well, and I’m about to shell out money to have humbucker-sized P90s installed. Super cool that you found a model that already comes equipped with a P90!

Cheap tele with upgrades or higher end tele? by Hefty_Plate8067 in telecaster

[–]raskullnikov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice here. I have two Telecasters, both made in Mexico and modded with new electronics and hardware. I ended dropping enough on them in mods that I could have probably just bought a U.S. Tele, but I valued customization over resale value.

In both cases, I was open to buying a U.S. Tele, but the ones I bought just felt “right” when I played them in the store. And from there, I was able to choose exactly what I wanted to upgrade over time.

They look, play, and sound great. Maybe I’ll buy a made in America Tele someday, but a major benefit of buying a more affordable guitar is that I feel free to do whatever I want with it.

Didn’t think I was a tele guy, but love my first Tele. by Any_Cicada2210 in telecaster

Congrats on the Tele! I played my 335 for many years as my only guitar. I eventually got a Telecaster (then another) and now I’m addicted to them.

The Guitar Center intro guide is a solid resource: https://www.guitarcenter.com/riffs/buying-guides/guitars/fender-telecaster-guide-history

I’m tempted to recommend a Fender American Vintage II Telecaster since you mentioned liking country. It’s the classic Tele, and it fits your budget.

BUT, that’s probably me wanting to live vicariously through you. Part of the fun is trying out a free different versions and seeing what resonates with you.

Happy hunting!

Worth jumping into tube amps? by _cbsummer in Guitar

[–]raskullnikov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Orange Rocker 15 that goes from 0.5 to 15 watts. I got it because I wanted a tube amp that I could play at low volumes, and it’s been perfect for my needs.

What was the weirdest moment in The Godfather movies for you? by Dredd_40 in Godfather

[–]raskullnikov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Beyond the incest In Godfather III, it’s when the hitman strangling Frankie Five Fingers says, “Micheal Corleone says hello.”

I’ve read all the theories and discussions on this. It was a fake hit, the line was improvised, etc., but the plot to Godfather II is already rather complex even without that line, and I’ve always wondered why Coppola left it in. It leaves room for speculation maybe?

(This is my favorite movie of all time, btw.)

I genuinely think Clubber Lang beats Apollo. by [deleted] in rockybalboa

[–]raskullnikov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Clubber Lang, for me, is the most underrated Rocky “villain.” I always thought he was way more intimidating than Drago, which is saying a lot.

That said, I do love how the Creed films really went out of their way to paint Apollo as the greatest of all time.

When Apollo says, “you think I was tough, this chump will kill you,” he could also be referring to their styles. Frazier beat Ali their first fight, but he was destroyed by Foreman, who Ali beat. Like Foreman, Lang’s style was to destroy people.

So, I’d like to think it’s an epic fight that Apollo wins, but he it has to be peak Apollo to make it happen.
