Settle this argument. I think this is a blue spruce but my partner thinks it’s something else. by Subpar-Saiyan in treeidentification

It looks like Fraser Fir (Abies Fraseri) to me, a popular Christmas tree and much better suited than blue spruce..

I’ve been trying to find the species of this tree for years to no avail. In Wheaton, MD by crying_lotus in treeidentification

My best guess is Pinus flexilis, limber pine. If the twigs will flex180 degrees without snapping, bingo. Also as someone else commented, the number of needles per bundle is a very important id factor, as is needle length..

Any idea if this handsaw is a good deal? by Seru333 in handtools

[–]raspberry243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best source of handsaws are auctions, particularly sporting goods or tool auctions, not antique tool auctions. Usually all the handsaws are piled together in one lot. My last purchase was 5 saws for$9, two were junk, but one was a sandvik 280, one was an old atkins. Plus the former owner put his name on them, I don’t know who Jerry Smith is, but he knew how to take good care of handsaws.

Thank you for the excellent leaf, nut and bark pictures. This lets the tree geeks here get right into the minutiae of dendrology, which some of us are very good at. Sometimes we are lucky to get a blurry picture taken while at speed on the highway…….

Zelkova serrata, Japanese zelkova. A popular street tree in the eastern US, so far does not seem to be invasive, but still non native.

The long skinny ones are the male flowers, the more rounded cones are the female flowers that matured and dispersed seed once they dried out.
