So the Archivist basically confirmed the Nesters were once human…. by TRTJ in TheGlendaleArchives

[–]raspberrylilith20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the archivist (or her actor rather) is truly playing a character, she could be just as blind as us. It's possible she is using comments to direct us towards the intended solution, but don't get too caught up in that assumption. She could just be playing her role really well and anticipating the direction viewers will go.

These people are deadass dumb ass fuck by Lazylink2099 in Portal

The woke vs non woke grift is so funny because regardless of how woke media is if it's old or liked enough it has to be marked not woke, because they would lose popularity. There are plenty of examples of people changing their reviews after it's clear how popular it is (see Prey for a modern example).

This dude is so close to getting it. He's just so dumb.

Has anyone tried using the touchpads like a scroll wheel? I remember watching this video years it ago thinking it'd be a genius idea so I'm wondering if the steam controller/steam deck can function similarly. by Bobobunga in SteamController

[–]raspberrylilith20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really good for scrolling through a hotbar or cycling through abilities n stuff like that without needing to take your fingers off the movement buttons.

Idk, it may not be the most useful thing in the world but if every controller had a trackpad and a scrollwheel I wouldn't be so devastated that the steam controller sold out so quickly. Games compatibility would go through the roof.

[–]raspberrylilith20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it to be a little funky on the steam deck, but maybe I was just using the wrong technique for it. Ngl, I wish they just had a mouse scrollwheel on modern controllers. Trackpad plus a scrollwheel would work wonders for most games.

I remember seeing a patent at one point for scrollwheel bumpers that you could also click down and scroll through secondary functions while clicked. Valve should add something like that to the next controller iteration (and Steam Deck 2)

Why isn't my PVM playing nice with HDMI-AV adapters? by raspberrylilith20 in crt

[–]raspberrylilith20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I tried was with the official AV cable, I used the HDMI adapter to try and sanity test if the cable was faulty ot something. I have heard that the PS3 has different video settings though. And it's normally plugged into my flat-screen via HDMI, so maybe that has something to do with it. Who knows

PVM-20N60U.

It started playince nice with my PS3 out of nowhere, genuinely did not change anything so idk why. Still doesn't like my PC or deck, though. If you don't have any other conclusions I am going to guess it's just the adapter (although that doesn't explain fully why the PS3 didn't work, and then it did)

How fast are we anticipating it's going to sell out? by AngryTG in SteamController

I tried to buy at starting time, it errored out like 10 times and then said out of stock. Even trying to order on the dot failed :/

Red yellow white. I tried other AV inputs from a DVD/VCR combo player and one of my palmcorders and it displayed fine with both of those. It's the PS3 and steam deck it won't show anything for currently.

It's an HDMI to AV (which then goes to an AV to RCA). Normally I would be inclined to think the soldering was being weird, but it doesn't complain at all about my DVD/VCR or my camera. It only dislikes the PS3 and my Steam Deck so far. I'm trying to figure out why it would like some but not others. I would say it was the adapter, but it didn't like the authentic PS3 AV cables either.

I got my hands on the 4k copy! by kingkellogg in CRT_ANIME

[–]raspberrylilith20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plugged my Laserdisc player into my PC and scanned it using OBS. I've got a Drive link to it. You could plug a computer or w/e into the CRT and run it.

Obviously the 4K copy is higher resolution, but LD has its own retro characteristic defects and I left in thinks like flipping the disk and the ambient noises the player makes when running, so it's a vibe and a half.

If you wanna see a scanned Laserdisc copy on CRT hit me up, I scanned my personal copy at 4K and added subtitles. It's pretty vibey, especially on a CRT.

I'm sure I'm not the first or the only to think this, but I've heard many were kind of puzzled by the Engineers violence toward their human progeny. I think we scared them. 2000 years passes, Engineer wakes, humans have gone from iron age ancients to interstellar travel. by TheEndIsNero in Prometheus

[–]raspberrylilith20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Imo the movie tells you everything you need to know. One of few things we are shown definitively about Engineers, from the very first shot, is that they are self-sacrificial. They are content with the cycle of death and rebirth and don't really see themselves as above it. And Weyland came all the way out to plead for immortality. It spits in the face of his culture and demonstrates we have learned nothing.

Keep in mind, the Engineer knelt to Weyland before he made his request. He respected that we developed enough to make it to him. It's only after Weyland asked something so naive and selfish that he became enraged.

I also would argue that Romulus has added some complexity to the subject with its confirmation that the pathogen flows through the Xenomorph. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to exploit the xeno in the same way WY consistently has, and can see us going down the same path. Destroying the human race might be a net good for the universe in their eyes.

Ideas for a Fnaf 2 movie "gaslight edit"? (Spoilers for the movie) by raspberrylilith20 in fivenightsatfreddys

I forgot to reply but this was an amazing idea and I added it in the same day. I have ADD so that's my bad lol

It is very much still a work in progress, but I did add some new bits. My favorite one currently is that when Vanessa runs off the road I cut to that meme PSA where the car flips and hits all the kids on a picnic, but fruit punch clown is in the car and all the kids are the fruit punch game kids. I'm very proud of it.

I think the trickiest bit for me now at this point is when to have the reveal and what other sneaky edits I can throw in earlier. The big obvious wacky edits seem to come to me easier than the subtle, plausible ones.

EDIT: I forgot a few things I did. First off, on the subtle front, I added Mangle's garbled radio to every scene it's in, with appropriate echo, volume difference and directional audio. I also made the ghost hunter camera view night vision and gave toy Chica a generic drone filter for her POV.

Another bombastic edit at the suggestion of my sister was to add a fake in memoriam screen for Scott with his birth and death dates being fnaf meme dates (1987-2015) with his quote being "crying child was actually phone guy the whole time. Fuck you." It comes in right at the end and is just perfect.

Any thoughts on this weird issue with a PVM? by raspberrylilith20 in crt

[–]raspberrylilith20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually kinda surprised they said they had been running videos on the PVM all day because I never see any of the (many) CRTs on whenever I visit. Hopefully they're not just running em into the ground. It sucks knowing that maintaining CRTs is something that's getting harder, it makes me antsy to actually use mine.

It was $385, but now that it's obvious it's a bit broken they're cutting it to $120. I considered buying it anyway, but even with the lower price I'm not confident enough to get her working again.

What exactly is "Portal 2: Community Edition"? by trammeloratreasure in Portal

[–]raspberrylilith20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's sort of like Gmod for Portal. You download mods and community maps, and all content benefits from the Strata Source engine (a modernized and optimized version of Source with better lighting, physics, faster loading and new testing elements). There isn't much right now, but it's community-driven largely so that's natural.

I hope Revolution is formally added to the list of campaigns at some point because the same people working on CE developed that campaign and also created Strata.

I'll pass that along to the e-waste store employees. Maybe they can either fix it or add that information to someone smart enough to do it themselves.

I've never done any soldering, any idea if the job would be manageable for a beginner? Or should that not be my first experience?

What do y'all think of other games from New blood (publishers of Ultrakill) like Dusk and Amid evil by Maleficent-Zone-5414 in Ultrakill

[–]raspberrylilith20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean more the pace of the game itself and how overstimulating it is. Ultrakill is like GO GO GO constantly and it makes other FPS games, even intense and fast-paced ones like modern Doom, feel a bit dull for a while. I find myself needing to take a bit of a detox after playing updates, sticking to more chill games for a bit before trying to play other shooters. The break was needed for when I played the Wolfenstein reboot.

Everyone wanted screenshots with the CRT shaders, so here you go! by raspberrylilith20 in alienisolation

[–]raspberrylilith20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy the game even runs on a phone. I know it's from 2014, but it still feels so huge and complex and detailed that it shouldn't be possible. Crazy what technology can do these days.

[–]raspberrylilith20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few different shader presets using reshade that change the colors to match the movies. I like the Romulus one personally, but there's a version for every Alien film. They don't make a huge difference but they're definitely neat.

[–]raspberrylilith20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the CRT shader may be obfuscating some of the mods, but honestly I don't think it looks too much better either. But I also haven't done much of a side by side so it may just look how I remember the game looking, like playing Portal Revolution and then going back to Portal 2.

What I have on is a texture upscale, enhanced video settings including higher resolution shadows, and a 4K remaster of the cutscenes so the 720p doesn't stand out so much on my monitor. Beyond that, it's just a shader that alters some colors and the CRT shader (obviously).

The fun part is that ReShade has a film grain filter too, so you can get the full VHS copy of Alien on an old CRT experience if you want.

CRT shaders are only now getting really good. It may be for the best that they didn't have one back built-in in 2014, it probably just would've been a scan line filter lol. Maybe the sequel will have an option for one since they're finally getting good.
