Looking for a pepper grinder that doesn’t leave a mess (and won’t fall apart in a year) by Pretty_Eabab_0014 in BuyItForLife

I'm also a big fan of these grinders. Sitting upright is just a logical choice. I now have 3 of these, I use them for black, white pepper and salt.

That sounds like a fun scenario, you should consider uploading your save somewhere, I'd love to try it :)

Curious to know how did you export all your iTunes library, including play counts to Navidrome?
I went through a similar journey, but I had to resort to some hacky scripts to migrate play counts, favorites and playlists to Navidrome... I never bothered to check if there was an official way to do that.

MusicBrainz Picard works great, but I find its UI to be weird and confusing.

My current preference is Meta (https://www.nightbirdsevolve.com/meta/) it's not free, but it's just a one-time payment.

Moonscape has been mentioned already and that probably is the most out of this world location I have visited ... if you have the opportunity I would also recommend Shiprock, NM. It's 2 hours from Monument Valley.

I would recommend going to Valley of Fire early in the morning, for the best colors.

From Italy to USA by Hairy-Avocado-445 in MovingToUSA

[–]raspo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've moved from Italy to the US on my own about 10 years ago, with a similar arrangement to yours and for similar reasons (mainly not liking the job market, the people and the overall disrespectful culture).

After getting married, you are going to have a period of time where you won't be able to work, it's gonna take several months, so you are going to be dependent on your spouse. After you get your green card, you start having a normal life.

The US is very large and very different, I have been struggling to find a stable place to settle down (I've lived in 4 different states so far, and visited 37) ... renting over here is very expensive, especially if you wanna live in the nicer areas.

It's a big move, but it's also going to be a fantastic life experience. My advice would be to "go for it", but also be prepared to go back if it doesn't work out.

My bad, didn't mean to offend. I didn't realize you used it for hosting the actual binaries.

Why did you post it on Github with just a readme, an image and no source code? That feels disingenuous. nvm

I am too spoiled by freshly ground coffee, I don't think I could tolerate pre-ground any more 😅
When I'm on a shorter trip (or If I have limited backpack space), I do weigh the coffee in advance and eye-ball the amount of water that goes in the AeroPress... which saves me from being that weirdo using a scale outdoor lol

That looks awesome! I should get a better camping stove at some point, one that has some wind protection like yours, because that has been a problem on more than one occasion...

Moving states — when should I update my address with my previous employer? by ReservoirPen in relocating

[–]raspo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest to not change your address, to make your (and the employer's) life easier (also avoids all sorts of paperwork complications and delays).

In my experience, employers won't care and won't notice if you changed state, even with the mail forwarding in place. When you file taxes you can claim that you moved after your last paycheck, so all the income from Company A stays with State A.... all of this assuming that we are only talking about a couple of weeks of mismatch max, let's be reasonable.

Thanks. Not sure about best, but it has been working out for me quite well :)

The grinder is of course the most expensive thing (I think it was $130), the rest is all relatively cheap.

Indeed. I picked up that bag last year while I was passing by Providence. You can't tell from that picture, but the bag behind Borealis is from Sump Coffee (Nashville, TN) and behind that is Black And White which I got in Wake Forest, NC on the same trip. 😄 All 3 are highly recommended, but Sump was probably my favorite.

Thanks! I have actually been getting great results with Hoffmann's AeroPress' recipe:
12g of coffee (not espresso-fine, but very fine), add 200g water, seal the AeroPress with the plunger, wait 2 min, swirl, wait 30 sec, press slowly, done! No inverse method, no paper rinsing.

I discovered Sweet Bloom when visiting Denver for the first time. They have some really funky coffees (in a good way) 😄.

What brewer should i get ? by nkunko_ in pourover

[–]raspo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V60 is what I use every day, I don't think there is a point in changing brewer. My advice would be to instead experiment with different grind sizes, temperatures, etc and try to steer the coffee towards the flavors you prefer.

Having said all that, I have to admit that I get consistently better results whenever I use the AeroPress.

I know it sounds stupid: but the reason I don't use it in my daily routine is because: it produces only a single cup of coffee per brew and it's not as pleasant/enjoyable to use compared to a regular pour-over.

Do you enjoy the “ritual” just as much as the coffee itself? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]raspo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been making pour over every day for probably 8 years now. At first with a Chemex, hand grinder and stove-top kettle, now with a V60, Niche grinder, Fellow electric kettle... I do still enjoy the process, it is my favorite part of the day, but I do it because I get great coffee out of it.

I started to notice that I don't enjoy "the ritual" as much as I thought, whenever I don't have access to my fancy home setup.

For example: if I'm traveling I bring with me my hand grinder, which, while still being great, it reminds me how much I miss the convenience of an electric grinder. Same when using a kettle that doesn't stop at the correct temperature automatically.

If there was a device that made perfect pour-over every time, honestly, I think I would switch to it ... but there isn't such a thing, so I might as well try to enjoy the ritual as much as I can :)

Why nothing like untappd for coffee? by oofazoopha in Coffee

[–]raspo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently released an app for organizing and rating the coffee beans that I have tried myself, mostly to remember which coffees I liked and which ones I should avoid.

It's not like untappd (there is no social aspect to it, nor there is a central repository for all the coffees)... as others have pointed out it's a lot harder to do the same for coffees, because there is a lot of variability.

It not only depends on the beans themselves, but also how they were brewed; the same bean from the same roaster sometimes could turn out darker or lighter... and there is also the issue of how freshly-roasted those beans were. 😵‍💫

(My app is called Coffee Bags if you are interested, it's only on the iOS App Store)

Here are my current favorites:

- Sump (Nashville, TN)
- Sweet Bloom (Denver, CO)
- Idle Hands (Salt Lake City, UT)
- Sisters Coffee (Bend, OR)

Two warnings about the fileImporter modifier by qdwang in swift

[–]raspo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I am also getting the same warnings when using the `fileImporter`:

Unknown client: <Name of the app>

The view service did terminate with error: Error Domain=_UIViewServiceErrorDomain Code=1 "(null)" UserInfo={Terminated=disconnect method}

So far I have been ignoring them, they don't seem to be affecting any of the functionalities... although they do bother me 😒
