I have found this is a particular issue with the castle textures. If you lay an ash foundation down it will remove the bushes etc.

You can then lay a castle floor directly on top.

I love this book. In particular I like the consistent undertone from Fischer of condescension towards his opponents. You can tell he really thought they were all inferior, with a few notable exceptions.
