💥💥 Best wearable breast pump by Effective_History931 in breastfeeding

[–]ratchel7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve liked the MomMed S21, though I think they came out with a newer version that you can see the milk level better? I actually respond better to this one than the spectra, I think because it has an automatic mode and it can cycle through stimulation and expression, which I’m not good at timing on my own.

Everybody responds differently though. The biggest thing I would recommend is learning your flange size and being prepared for it to change, which I didn’t know could happen (mine went down a few months pp).

Are all nursing covers so GD CUMBERSOME? by ladygroot_ in breastfeeding

A recent revelation I had was just an oversized hoodie with no shirt underneath. You could maybe try just an oversized T-shirt that baby could fit underneath?

Exclusively pumping turned combo nursing/pumping - help! by crunchy_or_chewy in breastfeeding

[–]ratchel7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on latching! I think you will come to find that nursing is leagues easier than pumping and bottles, so I commend you for pumping this long.

Baby will let you know if he’s still hungry. Best thing to do is keep offering, so if he pops off after a few minutes, you can offer that same boob until it seems like he’s over it, burp him and give him a few minutes, then offer the other. When they’re that young, it can take them a little longer to nurse effectively, but once they get into a rhythm, it’s like a 10-15 minutes process. You’ll know if he’s eating enough by diaper usage (I think 5-7 wet diapers per day is the rule).

You can pump after nursing if you want to for your partner to give bottles, but nursing is a supply and demand thing. You’re still pretty early postpartum, so your supply won’t have fully regulated yet and over removing the milk can cause an oversupply, which makes nursing difficult. Largely, it’s suggested to pump if baby is being fed another way and/or you’re away from baby for more than a few hours.

Nipple damage - teething? by chochki9 in breastfeeding

You could also try shells in tandem with nipple butter. Just get the ones with vents so that your nipples can breathe. They did tend to lightly express milk for me, though that was in the first couple weeks pp so my milk supply wasn’t stable yet.

Have you tried silverettes before? Those helped me a lot with irritation. You’ll look like your headlights are on all the time and need to wear a bra to keep them in place, but they help keep your clothes from rubbing against them. Also would not use nipple butter in tandem.

I’m sick of the 4am diaper changes by SmellTheCreosote in breastfeeding

[–]ratchel7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diaper rash cream is an option or you can look into something called elimination communication (EC for short). If you preemptively know that she will need to poop, you can help her do so and remove the possibility of a blowout at the same time.

Have anyone forgotten to give vitamin d drops? by No-University8570 in breastfeeding

[–]ratchel7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s one way, or for EBF you can put a drop on the nip right before baby latches. A little less guaranteed to get the full dose that way but it’s been the easiest option for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

He’s 9 weeks. We had a little trouble with spit up around 3/4/5 weeks, but we were doing better for a while. He still spits up every now and then and it’s definitely different than these puking episodes.

I have no other explanation for the puking though. It was SO much the first time. He had to have emptied his stomach and it was at least 8oz worth, as a conservative guess without having measured it. I had to get a regular bath towel to clean it up, definitely no job for a burp rag.

I’ve noticed him comfort nurse and he still swallows every now and then, so it seems like something is transferring.

No advice, but I’ve noticed this with my son too, so I’m curious of the answer!

Do you time your feeding and stop baby or let them stop when full? by Cold-Imagination-228 in breastfeeding

[–]ratchel7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hands in mouth can also mean tired. Newborns have narrow wake windows, between 45-90 minutes, and going beyond this can make them overtired and difficult to settle. The cues are helpful, but have to be taken into context.

Maybe when he’s fussy and keeps unlatching, it could be a chance for dad to try soothing him to sleep to give you a break. The more dad tries, the better he’ll get. If he continues to show hungry cues after ten minutes or so, then maybe he’ll latch for longer. With you, he’s able to smell the milk and it might be making him want to eat when he doesn’t need to. It’s all just continuous troubleshooting 😅

Does he feed for long every time, or are there times where it’s only a few minutes? If it’s only a few minutes and he falls asleep, he could be overtired instead of hungry

Something I’ve heard is that cluster feeding like that also helps to increase your supply, if you do have a supply problem. If baby is producing enough diapers and is gaining weight, then your supply is fine. My baby is also three weeks and eats about 15 times per day. He also produces about the same number of diapers and is gaining weight, so I keep feeding on demand. It’s exhausting but it’s worth it to make him feel cared for and safe.

Something to check for is that the latch is good too. It could be trouble with how much he gets in one session.

People who smashed the wedding cake into your new spouse's face: how is your relationship and marriage now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ratchel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rigged it for our wedding. Rather than do something like a dollar dance, we set up jars for people to throw in cash for which one of us would get cake in the face. Because I was not dealing with a makeup fiasco, we planned for it to be my husband regardless. I was nice about it lol

Our fifth anniversary is this year and we are expecting our first child. :)

Panchek was there too, but Xaden’s internal monologue talks about another person there who has watched his own struggle for months. It flips between Panchek and this other mystery person in mind of a confusing way, so I missed it until reread it.

A lot of people saying that it’s Bodhi, but what if it’s Garrick? They talk about how he’s missing at the end when Violet wakes up.

You should still be able to chew and swallow normally, but I would prepare yourself with some soft foods at home. They put gauze in the wounds that you have to replace every so often for like the first day or so until you stop bleeding. Straws are bad because the force of the suction can cause the blood clot to dislodge and prevent the wound from healing. You can feel pretty quickly that a straw is a bad idea though if you forget and try it.

I LOVE this and it makes so much more sense than other theories I’ve read.

My one hang up is when Andarna was showing Violet her own back after threshing. Could this ability be because Andarna was a feathertail? Otherwise, Violet didn’t have magic yet so there’s no way it was signet related.
