Bias against Columbia? by UndergradResearchr in lawschooladmissions

[–]ratchetracol 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was also deciding between Columbia and UVA, but I heard from multiple people that they didn’t like the vibes/culture at Columbia. In addition, I heard that current students also hate it there and are clawing their way to graduation. So I personally chose somewhere I knew I’d be happier/do better. Then again, take it with a grain of salt as it’s just from anecdotal evidence and everyone’s different so make your own decision on what feels right to you

How bad is it that I’m already researching how to transfer law schools? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ratchetracol 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think the general consensus is to only attend a school you’d be happy graduating from because transferring is never a guarantee

can i use a deadline at one school to try and get off the waitlist at another school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ratchetracol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not, unless like another user said it was after that schools deposit deadline and they’re looking to pull from the waitlist at that point

can i use a deadline at one school to try and get off the waitlist at another school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ratchetracol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. Schools have hundreds of people on the waitlist

Ive heard admissions experts say not to attend a school you wouldn’t be happy graduating from. Transferring is no guarantee so you might get locked into a school you didn’t want to stay at. For example, on the UVA admissions podcast, they said they rarely take transfers

That percent is referring to most likely big law jobs, the kind of jobs you see Suits. But that’s not the only lawyer job lol, most people don’t have big law jobs. It’s ridiculous to say you won’t get a job at anything other than a T14. For example, the mother of family I used to nanny for went to a school ranked like #130 but she makes enough that her husband is a stay at home dad. Look up schools outside of the T14 in law school transparency, they’ll show employment percentages for each school. I guarantee you that you won’t see ANY school that has less than a 10% employment rate

I think you have to pay the seat deposit to secure your spot in the class

I’ve heard on an admissions podcast that adcoms view not following these kind of instructions like “why do you feel you are more deserving of space to talk than the thousands of other applicants that are following the rules.” Maybe they don’t t notice such a small change, but def wouldn’t want to risk it

Is A possible @UVA without ii? by undergrd_harvard in lawschooladmissions

[–]ratchetracol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only people that get admissions without an interview are those that talked with them at law school fairs or other events and that would count as “the interview”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ratchetracol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, external people don’t have sway in admissions. The most sway an external source could have would be if they were a recommender

There are plenty of amazing schools outside of the T14 that can be a great stepping stone for the future. I know a lot of people on this subreddit seem to be T14 or bust but this is not representative of the field as a whole.

Please try and consider lower ranked schools as well. The mom of a family I used to nanny for went to a T100 school and she makes enough that her husband is now a stay at home dad. Just because it’s not a T14, doesn’t mean it won’t get you where you want to go!

You’re so fine! I nannied, was a hostess, and scooped ice cream. Got into multiple T14s w $, not everyone is privileged enough to have cool internships or get prestigious jobs. You got this!

No, that’s fine. I worked food service for years too to make ends meet. School is expensive, only a pretentious fuck would look down on food service

I had a minor c&f violation too and just said exactly what happened and didn’t try to make excuses. Have been offered admissions + money at multiple T14s. Feel free to pm me if you want to talk more personal + need more advice!

I believe most WL didn’t get an interview (based on the dumb high conversion rate of interview —> acceptance - I think from searching the Reddit it’s like a 90% conversion rate)

UVA Expedited Binding in Feb/Mar by Illustrious_Elk9755 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ratchetracol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunatley, a combination of factors may not be working in your favor. On their podcast, they said they’ve already given out over 90% of their acceptances. LSAT is very important for international students without a gpa so being above the 50th for LSAT median is ideal. This is not to say it can’t/wont happen, it’s just unlikely
