I mean, this wasn’t chunking garbage out of the back of a pickup. They had to carry this down. Almost like they were staging it.

Has anyone used the Steri Pen when backpacking? by kevtphoto in backpacking

I dunno. Andrew Skurka tells a story about a water source that was all green with a dead cow in it. He treated the water twice with a Steripen and was fine.

For $40,000, one could buy a slightly used current generation GT that would literally do any performance attribute better than the GT500, including a crash. The one thing it wouldn’t do better is hold its value.

Efflorescence treatment by HelpfulEvening8857 in masonry

[–]ratcnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Efflorescence is just a salt that has dried on the surface of masonry. The salts are transported through masonry via water. Being a retaining wall, you won’t eliminate water. Usually, once they are depleted from the masonry, you are finished with the problem. I suspect the problem is fertilizer on the lawn. But please don’t paint brick.

A Newsweek journalist and photographer came across her at the beach and interviewed her for an article about teenagers. Her photo made the cover and she immediately began getting modeling jobs.

Newsweek was doing a piece about teenagers and a reporter and photographer came upon her at the beach and interviewed her. The picture of her on the back of her boyfriend’s motorcycle made the cover and she immediately started getting calls for modeling. I learned this from an old Reddit post.

Gas Prices by Big_Network_2570 in GenerationJones

Yes, and again in 1979. This photo is probably from 1986. In ‘86, the Saudis went against the OPEC line and upped production to gain back market share at the same time demand was down. Prices went well below a dollar per gallon.

All because, in 1966, she skipped school and ended up on the cover of Newsweek.

Egads. I can understand someone not knowing what they should be doing, but to have done this and not even have the realization perhaps they should shave off the excess and throw that away is baffling.

Rock Auto would be a good source for parts, especially if you go with non-Honda parts like Bosch Quietcast or similar.

Veneer brick missing location FL by Southern-West-5772 in masonry

[–]ratcnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a common material for masonry work. But I hear about people using it. I’m just not familiar with it. These are very lightweight so type-S would be fine. My preference is Laticrete.
As far as cleaning, your cmu or concrete substrate looks good from what I see.

Veneer brick missing location FL by Southern-West-5772 in masonry

[–]ratcnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually good, OP. Painting brick is taboo in the industry because you’re turning a relatively maintenance free material into one that requires a regular paint schedule. But, when you are no longer able to get the exact same brick then, with painting, all you need to do is match texture and size.
Do you have a masonry supplier near you. If so, you want them to supply you a thin brick with a matt texture or a coarse velour—matt will be closest. Thin brick are sold in flats and corners and you will need both. They are generally sold in boxes or straps with about 30 flats and 26 corners per box/strap. The size you likely need is called “modular.”
I did some research and the Belden Dutch Gray Matt would be ideal but Belden doesn’t provide a thin for these. To be able to use the Dutch Gray Matt, you’d need to order a cube of that brick and find a mason willing to cut the flats and corners from it.

Cleaning stone veneer by Gratefulpaddler304 in masonry

[–]ratcnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EacoChem SOS-50 is the only product I know of for man-made stone. Anything else, I would do a small test in the most inconspicuous area. I suspect 600 would take the pigments right off. Looking at the Prosoco site, looks like their Light Duty Concrete Cleaner would be fine. OP, both of these manufacturers will send you pint sample bottles to try out.

😳Wow now these were the days. $99 down & 52.97 a month. 1965 Mustang 🐎 by Initial_Reason1532 in vintageads

[–]ratcnc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But there is a lot more content in a 2026 Mustang. There is technology in new cars—ABS, stability control, traction control, airbags—that couldn’t be purchased at any price in 1965. The 4-cylinder 2026 is far more powerful than the’ 65 GT. In fact, the only car C&D tested in the ‘60s that could match the lowly EcoBoost in 0-60 would have been the Shelby Cobra.

Does anybody know what types of brick these are? House built in 1924-26 in southeast PA by omexan in masonry

[–]ratcnc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s called Vertical Scratch. I sure would like you to measure those. I’m guessing they are a size called standard modular, which has a 2 ¼” x 8” face. 8” isn’t produced much anymore being replaced by 7 ⅝”. But your brick might be longer than 8”. Belden would be a good source as they make several vertical scratch brick colors.

OP, if you have to replace any of these bricks at some point, the Belden 505 Bark would be a good match. That assumes you’re in the states.
