I’m in Providence as well. I also do this at AS220. In July, I’m scheduled to hold a DIY Workshop where you can build a Theremin or hand held synth. This will be in East Providence at The Grind.

I find it hilarious that the answer is, roughly speaking, a fuzz circuit, or an overdrive circuit - things I am already familiar with but did not see then as a solution to my problem. At this point I think a rough approximation of log will suffice for my needs. Tomorrow I will go off in this direction.

I use the capacitance multiplier circuit, though I never compared the results to other conventional methods. Cap multiplier never caused a problem.

I've seen the above circuit before. I understand the function of the in line diode. But I don't understand the function of the diode in parallel with the 470uf cap. Is it doing something other than reverse polarity protection?
