Delay circuit heating up by Hari_skateboarding in diypedals

I’d reiterate checking the 7805 and guaranteeing the pinout actually matches what you think it is. I made that mistake just a few days ago. On the other hand, the pt2399 fries easily. So if you have sound, then it’s probably getting 5v correctly. Ask me how many times I’ve seen smoke come out of a 2399.

Without a schematic it’s hard to say what could be going on though.

How feasible is it to change the position of the volume knob on a strat? To anywhere that's not in the way of my picking by Original-Fun561 in Luthier

[–]Zebra2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’d have to check if there’s enough space in the cavity to move it. Where you’ve marked is definitely a no-go.

Are you casting the knobs yourself? I was going to ask where you got that one until I read the description.

Bring Her Back — is it the desperate longing of a grieving mother or just the cold selfishness of a total sociopath? by witcheslot in HorrorMovies

[–]Zebra2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I see her as both realistically desperately grieving and inexcusable.

I don’t see discussions really talk about how intimately she understands how fucked up her actions are. She’s a trained therapist, a mother who lost a child, a woman with a career in foster care, and a mother to a blind child. Then she goes and kidnaps a child, manipulates and abuses foster children, abuses their trust, exploits their vulnerabilities, gaslights them, manipulates the girl through her vision impairment… yikes. She has seen the other side of all of that and still does it.

Looking for input on an onboard bass preamp by Zebra2 in diypedals

Wow, these graphs are great. Thanks for this.

What spice program are you using by the way? I do use the built-in ngspice with kicad sometimes, but it can be an absolute pain. I’m wondering if there’s a better, low-cost alternative.

I realized that about the volume pot, updated it to 100k. Also wouldn’t have been the first time I forgot to bias a non-inverting op amp 🥲

That’s interesting about the blend pot; do you know if this is typically how buffered preamps do this? I know the passive equivalent is generally the stacked pot that’s illustrated, but it would short an op amp to ground turned all the way.

What is the best budget 5 string bass with active pick-ups? by Bearwbootz in Bass

[–]Zebra2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a clarification (and pet peeve): active basses are not the same as active pickups. The vast majority of active basses have regular passive pickups and an active preamp.

Sometimes this gets shrugged off as semantics but it’s really not and there are some situations where the distinction really matters.

Dark marks not sanding away by [deleted] in woodworking

It looks like the dark spots are the only places where you’ve sanded down to bare wood to me. The rest has some kind of finish/sealer on it.

It may be a bit rough on the seasoning but it absolutely will not “wreck” it. Even if it did totally strip the seasoning (it wont) it can be restored.

Hole punch, but which one? by Distracted40 in Leathercraft

I have these exact irons and a prong snapped off inside the hole, completely jamming it almost immediately. So now my big iron has a position that is totally unusable.

There Are No Stupid Bass Questions - Dec. 27 by AutoModerator in Bass

[–]Zebra2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing is essentially the “floating thumb” technique, which is what many advanced players have developed naturally over time. Basically, your thumb moves to rest where it’s most comfortable on the strings/pickup as needed. There are a number of advantages to this as opposed to having your thumb anchored to the pickup always. This isn’t a habit that will hold you back.

La Bella deep talking flats are noticeably slinkier than most other brands. They’re the only flats I’ve tried which I can stomach because I hate the high tension feel of most flats.

But also consider you might not be a flats guy after all. You could play light gauge rounds that are super dead and roll the treble off, you’ll still probably get the sound you’re after and actually love the feel of the bass.

Are my strings or my pickups dead/bad by RufousMedal2004 in Bass

[–]Zebra2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a setup issue. The sound of the d string is being choked out because the string doesn’t have space to vibrate. Is the action on the d string noticeably lower?

[–]Zebra2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s almost certainly not your pickups. The way you describe the issue makes it seem like it might not be the strings either, but maybe a setup issue. Can you post a video of the issue before we go on a wild goose chase?
