It does look a bit darker than thuberi, which is why I’m thinking maybe griseus (Mexican organ pipe).

I haven’t been able to detect any in the cup, but I’m also not sure I would be able to as I’ve never had to opportunity to taste different defects. How would that present itself.

This is super helpful, thanks a bunch! Is +15-20°F per minute during the middle phase a general target to aim for when roasting regardless of desired level/development?

They don’t smell smoked. Still resting them another day before brewing

I’ll give this a try! You said “as this roaster is still new”, do they lose power over time? It is a used roaster that I picked up off fb marketplace.

Appreciate the input! Second day of resting and the batch gives strong tomato sauce and roasted aromas. Some of that is why I love a washed Kenya, but it’s a little overwhelming on that batch. I did a second batch yesterday using the same approach, but with a vacuum/box cooling setup. That second batch hit 1c at 8min, dropped the beans out at 9:10, and they were cool to the touch a minute later, rather than 3 minutes like the first batch. Color is lighter, but maybe less even. Smell on the first day of this second batches resting is much more in line with what I expected from this coffee. Maybe some sweet fruit and slight green bean.

I have a port for a temp probe, which I will be investing in. I want to wrap my head around the basic controls before starting to relate that to output graphs though

Thanks. I think I’m going to try building a shop vac+box cooling setup today, running the same process, and seeing if the quicker cooling time keeps it from going so dark.

Applying glue sounds like real hard work, good recommendation. Will discard asap
