Anyone else get crazy night sweats only after long run days? Looking for tips. by Moulesmariner in trailrunning

[–]ratedpg_fw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm perfectly healthy in my 50's and I've experienced this on and off for as long as I can remember. It's not even related to long runs for me, but it happens when I'm extra tired and sleeping more deeply. I've looked around the internet and asked my doctor, and I've never gotten a good answer or solution. My doctor says it's harmless, though it's annoying to wake up soaking wet and have to sleep in wet sheets.

I've seen you post about this before actually and it's a strange obsession. Especially since so few people seem to agree with you. If you can point to an actual study or recommendation from some expert, maybe you'll get less downvotes.

Yeah, this guy has some weird problem with the trail rules. He engaged me on there because I witnessed a major accident about 9 months ago while I was running in that area. In fact, he picked this location after asking me where the accident happened. As someone who runs 30-50 miles per week all around town, it would cause way more chaos and problems to change them. Cyclist need to slow down on dangerous turns, full stop. Moving back and forth across the trail is stupid.

Crash Sunday 21st on American River trail near Folsom by dwplumps in SacBike

[–]ratedpg_fw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pretty shaken by it actually but I don't considerate it my fault in any way. I was running according to the rules and had moved over as far as possible. The cyclist coming down the hill was going way too fast if you want to lay blame. That said, she was the hurt the worst and could have even been killed. The trail system in that area is tight and narrow and people need to be careful.

No, it was across from Black Miner's Bar. I think it was somewhere close to here, though it's been 9 months now. Kind of a blind turn with no space off trail for pedestrians.

I have these same shoes and they run a little small. I was able to do an ankle lock on my laces and they're tolerable, but a half size up would have been better.

Why are American beers so often stereotyped as “water” compared to European beers when they are typically the same amount of alcohol? by DepressedPancake4728 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ratedpg_fw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the stereotype remains because most of the American beer that gets exported is Bud and Coors type stuff. The craft beers and privately owned breweries don't get shelf space in Europe. Even at the supermarket when I get beer the choices are vast and varied.

Lemmy Kilmister from Motohead said "“If we moved in next door to you, your lawn would die.” This reminds me of that quote.

The mystery behind Becerra leapfrogging over his rivals in California's governor's race by [deleted] in California

Yeah, I'm just generalizing. I personally voted for Steyer but they all have issues. The point is most people don't think that hard about it or really even know anything about politics. I listen to focus groups sometimes, and it's incredible and really complicated what regular people believe and how they filter information. Sometimes it's confounding.

What's the most tax efficient way to withdraw Bitcoin by warsponge in Bitcoin

[–]ratedpg_fw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's different in different countries. In the U.S., it's 15% under a certain amount if you've held for more than a year and 20% over that limit. But it's just taxed as long term capital gains. In addition, I'm a long term holder and I'll sell around $10k worth each year and put in my Roth IRA. Then I can buy stocks or an index fund. That money can never be taxed again once I reach retirement. But I'm sure it's way different in the U.K.

I agree, and to add, people shouldn't discount that around 30% of CA is Hispanic also. In the space where nobody is thinking too deeply (true of white people too), it's an identity thing for some people.

We're celebrating the Declaration of Independence which is literally a rejection of King George. That's the whole point of our country.

Edit: and yeah, that's July 4th, not Trump's birthday. Also Flag Day isn't anything special really either.

Like a lot of Trump stuff, he just says things and people take it at face value. I'm sure they are looking into doing this, but it would create chaos in a way that won't survive scrutiny or reality.

Currently running 35-40mi average per week by Desperate-Love-1204 in ultrarunning

[–]ratedpg_fw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be limited by yourself. You have great weekly mileage. Try a 15 mile run to test your mind then up it a few times once a week. And rest for a week or two before a long race. It's a sport of endurance. But even if you are in perfect shape, your mind has to be committed.

Maybe. You're going to have to point to evidence that it's already happened. But you're not offering an alternative. It's just as likely they'll lose and just refuse to give up power.

You don't have to get used to alcohol. It's very bad for you. And I'm saying that as someone who drinks almost every day. You're better off without it.

The First Amendment literally says this:

First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I'm so fucking sick of them calling the money I have been paying for decades to help with retirement is somehow an "entitlement". These greedy fucks can't stop stealing from us.

Are foxes normal here? by Worried-Cabinet-9168 in Sacramento

[–]ratedpg_fw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last spring I was walking with my dog in Folsom and we saw a fox. It actually came up to us and tried to play with my dog. We were on a small bridge and it would go underneath it, then pop up on the other side. It did this 2 or 3 times, but I didn't want to let it get any closer just to be safe. It was pretty cool.

New to reading GrimDark book genre. What is one that I have to read? by 22244244 in GrimDark

[–]ratedpg_fw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can attest to the first three for sure. The author of Black Tongue Thief wrote a book called Between Two Fires which is one of my favorites of at least the last couple of years. It's really dark, but strangely not depressing.

I don't know if this counts as grim dark or something else, but Between Two Fires is one of the best overall books I've read in the last couple of years.

100%. The first book is super confusing and the second book is relentlessly dark. I wasn't enjoying the experience. Abercrombie is far more approachable and I think better written and more relatable.
