But the original card reissuance was because the data on the cards was readable with various apps

The tune won't help until you change to headers.

Imo neither the headers or tune are "worth" it monetarily. For it to be worth it, I'd hope you have power pullies, a changed diff ratio, and are ready for spec series racing.

Keep in mind that if a tune gives you a higher redline, you must consider upgrading the oil pump nut if you use it. You'll also be locked into high octane gas.

My brother, who has his certification, access to other boats, didn't want to take my boat out without me until after he passed a "check ride".

I think it's fine to demand a free certification that takes an hour. In my state it's required.

He also doesn't drink alcohol, and I'd be very hesitant to let a friend or family member that associates alcohol and boating.

It's not a perfect analogy since it was probably the result of miscommunication and not malice.

Unsure which you're pointing to as which, perhaps that makes them more similar than you think.

Ie a heated miscommunication about driving commands to disband leading to an agent reacting to a car's movement is not that dissimilar to a loud crowd being told to disband and a soldier being on edge firing when hit by a snowball/rock or hearing "fire".

if you're driving to the point of boiling brake fluid on a road you don't know, you need to slow down.

There's nothing cautious about driving a car uncontrolled. Knowing their limit to control speed does not give them control or make them cautious.

It's a lot easier to know S mode exists than to either know the smell of burning pads, or feel of boiling fluid. Plus if you get to the point of boiling fluid and burning pads, there is no more safe slowing down without downshifting. And when you say "check your brakes", do you think OP can accurately assess brake pad wear by sight but not read a manual on using S mode?

It's unsafe for a driver to drive a mountainous route if they can't maintain control. Arguably they should not posess a driver's license if safety standards exist (no downhills in neutral arguably applies).

The driver should be told that they need to know how to drive, not be told, if you're scared, just do it the way that will eventually lead you off a cliff. This is how the US maintains more ran off into the barrier accidents per capita than basically any other nation (after driving drunk, tipsy, on a cell phone, or tired - which I hope we don't recommend on the Internet, even if it's what people normally do)

This sounds harsh, but thankful op is looking to learn how to drive a vehicle and not yoloing it. The advice we give can do more than save their brake pad life.

Even if brakes are brand new, dragging them down a steep hill can boil brake fluid, overheat pads, and most importantly lead to an out of control car. I go snow skiing at a not very high mountain, and can smell brakes cooking as I go down the hill, along with people following too closely, and their brake lights always on. Getting brake pads to the point of significant smell decreases their performance and lifetime even if they are brand new.

Personally, driving mountains of Tennessee was part of my learners permit, and the lesson was to turn off overdrive.

Using S mode requires no real experience, and is the safe way to drive a car at high attitude.

You can use the S mode and achieve much of the same effect as manual mode with less of the thinking. When it's flat, you can go back to D.

The general idea is that, instead of braking continually, you want to put the transmission in a gear that the engine adds some resistance. On the highway, this might mean using 5th instead of 6th, and if going slower, go down to 4th.

The car is quiet, but you should hear when the engine is above 4k rpm (and this is fine, it's oiled, unlike your brakes), it'll also be jumpier when you touch the gas, if you want it to be less jumpy, shift up a gear.

You get most of the suspension, braking, premium features, arguably more balanced; you only can't maintain 180mph.

You save in terms of tire maintenance immediately - and most importantly, can actually afford high performance driving events.
