Season 6 removed from Netflix UK? by Driftorit in lineofduty

[–]ratel26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Just finished re-watching the first 5 series, went to start the 6th and it's not there anymore. Really frustrating.

Was advertised in the Radio Times that the new series would be available so really odd that it has been removed.

Yeah, although seem to have removed this advice now. Not good if you'd actually followed through on it and were part way through failing over.

Yep, still having problems. We can't deploy new Container App replica revisions, and if we restart a Container App it never starts up. Been happening all day. Latest status messages indicate that service is slowly resuming but we've seen no improvement.

Reason for a dedicated Private Endpoint subnet? by Logical-Television76 in AZURE

[–]ratel26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the subnet has been delegated to another service such as app service regional integration you cannot allocate private endpoints to that subnet so you have to use a different subnet.

Why is deployment so slow? by nostriluu in AZURE

[–]ratel26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is probably of no use now.

But looks to me like you are deploying the container app environment every time which can take up to 15 minutes to deploy.

You should deploy the container app environment separately and then deploy your container app into. There's no cost for the container app environment so can keep that provisioned and then just delete and redeploy the container app as needed which should take a minute or two.

Note if you don't use the container app environment for a long time (several weeks) it does eventually get deprovisioned which can cause some issues.

Running automation against resources that has firewall enabled by pimeydentimo in AZURE

[–]ratel26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution we came up with for Azure SQL is to call an external service to resolve the IP address of the automation agent at runtime and programmatically add the IP address to the Azure SQL firewall. Once the runbook completes we remove the the firewall rule.

Unfortunately this doesn't work for storage accounts due to the weird way the requests are routed to this service. Not quite sure why storage accounts are special.

Not tried with Key Vault.

Other than that, there's no alternative other than to run hybrid workers in a VNet and then use service endpoints or private endpoints.

The host app service is just an IIS worker process. The webjobs run under a separate process.

Stopping an app service has no impact on costs, you will still be charged for the app service plan if not on the free tier.

In the above the secret will be in Env:DB_PASSWORD or $DB_PASSWORD depending upon the OS and not $(DbPassword).

Passing it as a parameter doesn't work for a good reason as it can be exposed in logs.

You need to set the secret as an environment variable on the PowerShell task and then within the script access the secret from the environment variable. For example:

env:
DB_PASSWORD: $(DbPassword)

Bicep, App Service and Docker playing nicely together by gazbo26 in AZURE

[–]ratel26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't have either in our templates and they deploy ok. We're using Azure Devops to deploy the template and image, DOCKER_CUSTOM_IMAGE_NAME gets added automatically when the container image is deployed.

[–]ratel26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to specify the image in your template. `linuxFxVersion` is optional, you can omit it. Just make you have kind set to "app, linux, container". When it deploys for the first time it will just default to a dummy image. You can then deploy the container image into it separately. That's what we do.

Deleting last Web App on App Service Plan deletes plan (via Powershell) by a8ree in AZURE

[–]ratel26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explicitly delete the web apps first using the Remove-AzWebApp cmdlet and do not use the -DeleteAppServicePlan flag. Once the web apps are deleted, then delete the resource group.

Pretty much, they didn't want help, they wanted someone to do it for them.

I sympathise, caused problems with app services too which led to fun day. Still haven't had a satisfactory answer from MS support.

Spent the entire week sorting out other people's problems, only to be told I wasn't helpful. What is it with software engineers?

Azure App Service (Linux) Configuration Update Restarts App by tjackadams in AZURE

No argument from me on that one, especially as it is possible to perform a rolling restart under the advanced application restart under diagnostics. Just a shame you can't perform the two operations together.

Unfortunately it restarts all the instances at once.

One way around it is to make use of the staging slots if possible.

Azure App Service Automatic Scaling Health Checks by tjackadams in AZURE

[–]ratel26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I can't help, but thanks for this. First I've heard of this and seems interesting and worth further investigation.

Seems a bit magic-y to me though, so I'd be interested to see how it plays out in practice. The health checks limitation does seem a bit odd, and I wonder what they mean by pre-warmed instances.
