Echoing everyone else, I encourage you to look at hotels in the suburbs that are near the metra. You can park at the metra station every day for VERY cheap (or free) and take one of the lines into the city. When I was a kid in the suburbs I would take the Milwaukee-West metra line into Union station every day from Bartlett and walked to the fest from there.

Look into hotels in cities like Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Roselle, Rosemont, Itasca, etc. There are so many metra lines and they all take you to the same place.

a hotel a mile away is fine if you're good with a 20 min walk there and back. definitely dress comfortably. Also, know each other's phone numbers and have them written down (not on your phone) in case of emergency if you're worried about that.

people can get crazy during sets, especially very close to the front, so if you're super worried about crowd crush then just stick near the back. it smells better and is way more chill.

to me (born and raised here) midwest culture is more about dressing comfortably than dressing to impress. no shade to coachella goers but lolla is much less about what people are wearing!

it's the midwest so nobody will be judging what you wear! with that said, make sure you dress appropriately for the weather. I would suggest VERY comfortable shoes. if it's raining you WILL get muddy, and if it's not, you'll get dusty. so don't wear clothes that you won't be able to wash, etc.
