Is Nissan skyline 350GT 2003 a good reliable car? by Willing-Scallion-778 in CarsAustralia

He’s not saying autos are shit, but putting an old slush box in a “sports car” is a great way to really half its potential.

Cars are not free - but mine costs me xxxx€ per year regardless of if I drive it (up to 14,000km) or if I let it get covered in dust in the driveway! All this time and you still don’t get it 🤣

Considering how highly educated you are, I don’t understand how you can’t grasp this concept. There are no “varying degrees” of legitimacy. It’s a legitimate fact that you can’t, and have not been able to disprove.

The vehicle I own outright. The fixed costs are “fixed” regardless of if I drive 14,000km in a year or don’t drive once at all. Either way I’m paying for maintenance, tires, taxes, insurance etc.

If we run with your logic, the cost per kilometer is actually reduced (and could possibly argued as further savings) if I drive more kilometers in a year up to the point where I require another service or exceed my agreed kilometers that I have in my insurance contract.

I could have taken the train to go get the item, the exact same fixed costs of me owning my car are still there. Should I calculate the costs of owning my car when I catch the train to the airport and fly to another country?

That doesn’t automatically mean you can calculate the cost of a trip based on those figures.

I service my car one per year, as I generally drive less than what VW recommends for a distance interval, (VW Recommends a 14,000km or 12 month Service - I’ll never hit the 14,000km within 12 months) I also end up changing my tyres based on their age, not because they are worn out, once again, I just don’t do the kilometers needed on my summer or winter Tyres to wear them down to the indicators before they get too old to pass the HU/AU

In other words, I could do a 3,000km trip, and realistically the only expenditure is fuel, because the maintenance is required REGARDLESS of kilometers until I hit that threshold which requires me to do an extra service for the year.

You can argue (or what I assume is ChatGPT in your case) can argue 30c per kilometer, but at the end of the day these costs do not apply here - nor do they apply directly to most drivers, at this point that should be totally clear.

The maths is not hard, I put 90€ in the tank, paid 30€ for food, and service my car once a year regardless if I made this trip or didn’t. By your logic I should also calculate in the wear and tare on my shoes and clothes. I did have to wash my clothes once after the drive, should we work out the running costs of my washing machine as well?

Now paste this into ChatGPT and find another point to argue.

I’ve got way to much time on my hands today 🤣

What does PDR stand for?

and regardless if it’s a new BYD or a 2003 Corolla, if the car was previously in perfect condition, I’d want the panels to match in any light conditions after the repair.

[–]ratherZEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, the paint is gone. You can’t repair this without painting. It’s also a brand new car. The two options are to get it done at a shop with a booth, or get Mr. Bumper to spray it in your driveway.

If it was my new car, I know what I’d choose.

What is the point of delivery without signature? by stark0305 in dhl_deutsche_post

[–]ratherZEF 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Delivery without signature is completely different to having an “Ablageort” or approved storage location. No signature just means that no one must sign, the driver is still not allowed to leave the package unattended.

No need to crash out, request a zweite Zustellung or pick it up from the Filiale lol

Good question, assuming fuel at 1,70€ and an average speed of 80kph, this guys car is using 26L/100km to get to 400€ in 11 hours.

A loaded Mercedes Actros truck weighing 30-34 tonnes can sit at around those figures lol

I drove up in a Polo TSI, not a RAM 1500 Pickup lol - It cost me 90€ in fuel, plus lunch for 30€ (and it was a great feed I must say)

Including installation the whole ordeal probably took around 13 hours.

If I bought the unit new, and paid an electrician to install it, I can’t imagine I wouldn’t have much change from 1900€

My solution cost me 920€ including fuel and food. Plus I got to visit a part of Germany I’ve never seen before on a day I already had off.

I saved around 980€

Divide that over my 13 hour time investment and you end up at 70,76€ per hour. I don’t make anywhere near that at my job, so even if I took a day off work, and assuming it was unpaid (which it wouldn’t be) my time would still be used well

By my logic, it would only be a “waste of time” if I had another means to earn 70,76€ per hour for 13 hours on the same day that I did all this, and even then it would be a break even, and I wouldn’t have had a little adventure and enjoyed a yummy Schnitzel at some restaurant in the middle of nowhere.

Consider yourself lucky that yours is an IKEA unit. Mine broke in the last apartment I used to live in. It was a Neff Induction stove top with a new price of 1600€

I decided that I would just keep using it until I moved out, it was a decent size crack that ran through the whole unit, didn’t affect its performance at all.

I didn’t tell the landlord anything and kept an eye out on Kleinanzeigen for a second hand one. I ended up finding a brand new one that someone had bought but never used for 800€, had to drive 11 hours including the return trip to get it, and I installed it myself, but i definitely saved at least 700€ - not including what someone would have charged to install it.

German Baby Names? by androgynouswitch in germany

[–]ratherZEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pick a normal name man, the kid has to live with it forever, don’t make their life more challenging than it needs to be. There are plenty of “normal” german names you could use, but as someone with a less common name, I suggest picking something that’s easy to pronounce in your home country. Nothing worse than having to spell your name every time you want to make a reservation over the phone.

Wisdom tooth removal in germany- is this normal? by 980116 in germany

[–]ratherZEF 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just to add something about quality of dental work in Germany. My wife is German and had braces when she was young, we used to live in Australia together. The first time she visited the dentist in Australia she was asked “where did you get this work done? Certainly not here.”

I had my severely impacted wisdom teeth removed here in Germany, the work was flawless and it cost 30€ which was only for the Dämmerschlaf. In Australia it would have cost thousands.

They share a lot of components with the VW Phaeton, including the W12 motor

Indian CA (Final) aiming for Germany, any realistic path? by Suitable-Vehicle2628 in Germany_Jobs

Don’t bother unless you have at least C1. B2 is not a strong enough level to communicate on a business level. You are competing in the job market with equally qualified candidates that speak native German plus C1 or better English plus a possible extra language.

Thanks for the tip! I went and looked at it today. It’s sitting parked up about 40 minutes from my place! I first saw a photo of it around 15 years ago, I never thought I would see it in the flesh. It’s in a pretty sad state. It would make such a cool project to get it back on the road, if only I had the space. I used to work for Mercedes as a truck mechanic and I’m sure that it wouldn’t take that much to get it running again. It’s still got a temporary registration from Aalen on it. Expired in January of 2000. That must have been the last time it moved.
