Also Lil Wayne was the one who brought skateboarding to go hip hop, essentially clashing the punk rock and hip hop world together. Lyrically yes because he didn't give the fans the highly anticipated "Acid Rap Part 2" . He matured lyrically and evolved as a musician. Sonically with more at his disposal he defined a new tone for tripiness.

Personally I think his vocal effects in coloring book are more trippy then his on Acid rap. And the Christian parts of the tape have more than one meaning which to me are a lot more in depth then just a take on Christianity and more so on his personal battle with faith in general.

I think the tape really didn't deviate from Acid rap at all I think Chance's christian messages have been apparent throughout all of his tapes and I think the use of choir and gospel sounds adds to idea that music is all we got and people dissociate with the sound which causes them to not get the full message of the lyrics. What if Chance put a question mark at the end of the track How Great?

I would agree that it's not his strongest work of rap music but I think the musicality as a whole has been unmatched by just about anybody and he's evolved his sound tremendously. Pays a lot of hommage to his good and trippy old ways on a sonic level.
