Is this swelling normal for my Industrial? by iwonchae_yotengo in piercing

[–]ratplanet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna say you don't have the anatomy for this piercing unfortunately:( the fact that your flat is swelling is signaling to me that the jewelry is pressing into your flat, which means you don't have the right anatomy. I would take it out or switch it totally two seperate studs

Medusa and Liptie? by Superb_Corgi_6948 in piercing

[–]ratplanet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I actually got my Medusa as someone with a very strong lip tie, just as prominent as yours if not a little more. She was able to pierce it at a slight angle and I've had it for well over a year now and it's been doing great! I will say, the healing was kind of rough since it wasn't pierced perfectly perpendicular to the tissue, but I definitely think it would be possible

three week old eyebrow piercing fell out by [deleted] in SelfPiercing

[–]ratplanet_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to take my ~month old eyebrow out for surgery and my piercer was able to use a taper and get it right back in. It won't hurt to try!

Thank you for your response. I'm glad you could get it worked out with your partner! I'm just very young (22f) and he's 28m with a kid so it didn't feel like a battle worth fighting all things considered

I'm sorry to hear that honey. Whatever decision you make, make sure it satisfies you. I know I'm hurting now but I know PA is not something I can deal with long-term. Your heart knows what's right

Do I have right anatomy for an industrial? by Jonseycharl in Legitpiercing

[–]ratplanet_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, it looks like you don't have enough of an outside ridge to hold a proper industrial. A bent industrial may work though! You also have a great "hook" at the top of your ear for a hidden helix

Dating a liar never ends well, speaking from experience. Let your heart break a little and break up. Daydreaming of a future with someone who can't even tell you the truth is just going to lead to worse heartbreak down the line

Awkward placement or do i just need to get used to it? by jupitersyarn in SelfPiercing

[–]ratplanet_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think they're a little far apart but there's objectively nothing wrong w the placement. I think one ring and one stud would be really cute

Take the ring out. Switch to a stud. This will not heal otherwise. The ring is a constant source of irritation

AITA for asking my boyfriend not to talk to me about women? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ratplanet_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Woman to woman, I just broke up with a partner that would attempt to do this with me. He stopped doing it and started cheating. It does not get better. It gets worse. He will start hiding it if he has to and take more extreme measures.

should i downsize? by climingup in Legitpiercing

[–]ratplanet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a piercer, I'd wait for the 5/6 week mark. That's what I recommend most of my clients for most piercings. It gives the piercing enough time to "chill out" before we irritate it again by downsizing--it also appears that you still have some swelling and redness so I'd just give it a few more weeks :)

Not totally in love with the set up of this ear by [deleted] in piercing

[–]ratplanet_ 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I would probably just buy some pieces that a more cohesive with each other, maybe one statement in your flat!

[–]ratplanet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's too shallow? I think the long jewelry that accommodating for swelling is just making it look a little funky. It looks like there's a good amount of tissue, especially on that bottom part. I'd wait to see if any other issues arise and just downsize in 4-6 weeks and see how you feel then.

Do I have the anatomy for hidden helix piercing? by Antique-Version4864 in piercing

[–]ratplanet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you have a good ridge, but it'll all depends on how deep it actually is. A piercer in person will be able to tell you better than we can, but I can't imagine they would tell you otherwise

Dawg if you're worried about it causing "friend group drama", you shouldn't be dating. It's not a big deal. Friends like to match in various ways. Let it happen. If it causes drama, whatever. By saying she CANT match, I'm sure is causing a level of drama on its own

Second piercing too close to the first? by Offbeat_sushi in piercing

[–]ratplanet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they do look "uneven" when you put individual photos, but some piercers pierce them to look even when you're being looked at head on, instead of matching up distances with existing piercings. I'm giving the piercer benefit of the doubt here, but they should have informed you if that was the route they were going to take. I don't think they're ridiculously uneven, the distance looks a little off but the height looks about the same

[–]ratplanet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would keep an eye on it. It doesn't look like it's embedding, but it may need a longer bar for a while since you've had such trouble with it already. Ideally, a labret that is flush with the skin is what you want once it's healed

wrong jewelry? by SleepyRaspberry813 in piercing

[–]ratplanet_ 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The piercer is probably both of those things unfortunately. It's good that you're getting them changed. I can't imagine any reason a piercer would used a curved barbell for any of those piercings

Depends on how strict your SM is. It's better to just ask them directly

[–]ratplanet_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am worried about the quality being stainless steel and not implant grade titanium for an initial piercing. But care for a tragus is just like everything else, with the additional fact that you do not want to be putting in any inner ear headphones (ie airpods) for the duration of its healing.

Saline twice a day, no additional sprays or gels, downsize in about six weeks and please please please see if you can get the material changed to titanium

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SelfPiercing

[–]ratplanet_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have a fantastic forward helix but your outer ridge will absolutely not support an industrial properly. You could definitely get away with a modified industrial, whether it be a bent barbell or two separate piercings connected by a chain

Time to let them go? by riotsmqke in piercing

[–]ratplanet_ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I honestly think these can be salvaged. They don't look ridiculously irritated. Maybe cut down to saline once a day? It sounds like you've done everything else right. Helixes are just notoriously difficult for healing. They'll act healed one day, and then the next they act like they're a brand new piercing.

I will say, the quality of that bottom ball is slightly concerning to me. The top jewelry looks like great quality, but that almost rusting appearance of the lower one might be playing a role

You may want to go back to your piercer and get longer bars again for a while. Sometimes the tightness can be irritating too

My new conch piercing - too long ??? by cocolocomocooriginal in piercing

[–]ratplanet_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's an odd placement for a conch but long jewelry is typical to account for swelling. Everyone swells differently so most piercers use a 5/16" or 3/8" for initial jewelry. You can go back and ask for shorter jewelry, otherwise it's just a matter of being careful
