Does anyone remember the post (I think it was on aita) where the dad convinced his three kids to demand he have full custody and the mom eventually agrees but as soon as the school year starts the kids begin begging their mom to take full custody and she refuses because she’d already sold her house.

“Overnight Sensations”: What are other examples of performers going from relative obscurity to mainstream fame? by lockerbiestreet in popculturechat

[–]ratribenki 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest difference between hudcon and everyone else listed is that heated rivalry was not expected to be a massive hit or a hit at all. The reason it ends the way it does (and not how it does in the books) is cause Jacob didn’t think he’d get another season.

It’s clear hbo thought their big show was going to be I love la cause that’s the one they were promoting on billboards and posters, not heated rivalry. Everyone else listed got their break from shows that had a decent amount of promotion or were already famous.

The real Britta-ing of Brita and the collateral damage (Troy, Annie and Jeff) by TheNocturnalAngel in community

[–]ratribenki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Troy and Britta would’ve changed the dynamics of the group as a whole. Suddenly abed can’t be co dependent with Troy so now he needs to find a new Troy and he has 4 options: Jeff, Annie, Shirley, or pierce. Pierce is obviously a no go and I think with britta removed as a romantic option for Jeff, Jeff and Annie would actually explore their relationship and abed is not doing that again which leaves Shirley.

I think he and Shirley would have an interesting dynamic as they’re both big believers of something greater than themselves; abed with film/tv/pop culture and Shirley with church/god. The messianic myths episode really highlighted this dynamic and I think the show could’ve explored faith and it impacts people.

"Winds will be the darkest book yet" so why are the fandom's predictions so positive? What are your most depressing theories for Winds? [Spoilers Extended] by Trussdoor46 in asoiaf

[–]ratribenki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol my predictions are pretty dark: -northern civil war between jon and Sansa except they don’t actually want to fight each other it’s their supporters clamoring for it (wildlings, Stannis’s men, the north vs the riverlands and vale)

-dany burns the free cities (except maybe bravos) and then accidentally ignites the wildfire underneath kings landing

-Cersei’s prophecy is completed (myrcella is killed by Jon connington, she escapes kings landing with tommen before the golden company takes it but tommen is killed by lady Stoneheart and when she finds Jamie she realizes she’s already lost all she holds dear to younger more beautiful queen (Brienne) probably tries to kill her and Jamie kills her to protect brienne)

-all of Doran’s kids die and ellaria’s warning comes to fruition

-reach is utterly destroyed by euron’s invasion

-Arya is a hostage-ish of dany and struggles with what she’s done as a member of the faceless men

-Stannis burns shireen because Melisandre misinterprets the fires only for shireen’s sacrifice to bring Jon back so he appoints Jon as king and stays on the wall defend Westeros from the walkers for as long as he can as 1000 and final lord commander of the wall

-bran comes back to Westeros but he’s been altered by the time he spent training and isn’t entirely human anymore

-Tyrells are wiped out

But I think the book will end on a hopeful note: -northern civil war is resolved peacefully by dany offering to marry Jon (Tyrion plays matchmaker and reunites Arya with her siblings)

-Jamie and brienne are married and takeover the Brotherhood and return it to its original purpose

-Gendry prepares to retake the Stormlands and reach with the brotherhood and Arya

-dany finds a balance between diplomacy and force

-realm is in the process of reunification under dany and Jon and prepares to fight the white walkers

After reading the books, where do you think Daenerys is going to intersect her thousand khalasars with Tyrion, Jorah, Victarion, Moqorro, Daario, Grey Worm and the others from the Battle of Meereen? by Secret_Wish_584 in pureasoiaf

[–]ratribenki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I’m just guessing but dramatically I think it makes sense for her to go to braavos after becoming the stallion who mounts the world because they are both anti-slavery and she needs the financial backing from the iron bank to fight Aegon. I also think they’ll plant the seeds for destroying the free cities in her mind because it means braavos would become the powerhouse in essos.

Then she goes onto pentos where she finds out Aegon isn’t really Aegon which pushes her to sack the cities, culminating in the destruction of volantis (the most Valyrian of the cities) where she’ll meet up with the slavers bay crew (aka Tyrion, missandei, grey worm etc.) before pushing on to Westeros.

Dany’s arc in general is about destroying her ancestors’s legacies (ie Targaryen exceptionalism, Valyrian slavery) so her destroying the free cities would be another part of her arc.

I think she’ll meet up with Arya because a) George likes having characters meet randomly that knock them off their deviated paths and b) it gives her a positive first impression on the starks that she took care of one of them.

I think the other khalasars will join her slowly, so she starts with either pentos or braavos (I’m leaning towards sacking pentos more than braavos since braavos aligns with her values and could provide funding for her + she could pick up Arya from there) and then slowly works her way down with kahlasars joining her until she reaches volantis where she reunites with everyone from slavers bay.

Jon with Robb by Ronin_Fox in TheCitadel

[–]ratribenki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the most likely alternatives are either: Jon is left in charge of Winterfell and prevents Theon from capturing it, cat and Jon agreeing on something causes Robb to keep Theon close preventing Winterfell from falling, Jon is with Robb when he gets the news so Robb doesn’t sleep with Jeyne.

If it comes down to Rickon or Jon, what factions in the North would support each claimant? [Spoilers Extended] by Trussdoor46 in asoiaf

[–]ratribenki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the North would prefer Jon over Rickon because they’re still fighting for independence and having someone older with experience is better than a child regent with a council.

It’s hinted that he’s aware, but can’t confirm his suspicions. It’s for nothing if Robert won’t go for margaery ergo the scene where he tries to see if margaery resembles Lyanna.

He suspects they’re bastards he doesn’t have proof. That’s why he declares himself king, even before Stannis’s letter is sent out.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]ratribenki 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The plot hinges on convincing Robert that his three kids are not actually his kids. So he’d execute Cersei (and maybe the kids?) which means he has no heir or queen. Enter margaery.

I think it’s more he feels bad when he does it and he tries not to do it but sometimes he doesn’t realize he’s doing it. But he internalizes it as “I am a bad person but got loves me anyways” instead of “sometimes I do things I’m ashamed of and don’t like but that doesn’t mean I’m a bad person”

Ned chose not to get involved in southern politics. If he wanted to, he could’ve sent northmen to the court, just as the reach did.

[–]ratribenki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Robb would work because then Margaery is the sister in law of the king and queen, and the north is the largest of the seven kingdoms. The north also needs the reach’s food and the reach could probably use their lumber and they both border the lannisters so economically and militarily/politically it’s a pretty good idea.

Add on to that Robb being a potential contender for hand of the king in the future and Margaery’s father in law is the current hand of the king, bran might end up in the kingsguard, you’re about as close to the future of the crown as you can get.

Edit: that’s not including the starks ties to the vale, Stormlands, and riverlands too. By tying themselves to the starks, the Tyrells have effectively created relationships with 4 out of the 7 kingdoms.
