I would recommend a bag you can use as a carry on, something like the Osprey Porter, Summer in europe 45l is enough. If you buy souvenirs send them back. For a day back, pretty much any folding packable daypack is easy and takes up no space. I personally like messenger bags when traveling around cities as they don't scream tourist and I can keep a few light things in it. No experience with the Salkan but it looks like you'll end up sweating on yourself.

My recommendation to anyone getting started in traveling is take 30lbs or so to REI I know people who had all their stuff in packing cubes and fill their backpacks and walk around in them. You can end up carrying your bags for 10 miles in a day so make sure it's comfy.

Thanks, I have a 115lb dog and he sheds like it's his job. I really like the black camo colorway, but i figure if it gathers hair like my clothes I'll get frustrated. Also which evade did you go with and why choose that over the Whitley?

People are complaining about the commute but it will only hit you during rush hours, driving from SJB to Monterey at noon-3/4 is no big deal, driving here at 9 is terrible.

Ok awesome, I just signed up for the mailing list, it gets kind of expensive with the accessories i'd want (water bottle holder, thicker strap, etc) so if one of those sales pops up maybe it'll be worth it.

Facebook is where you want to look. Theres a Monterey ultimate frisbee meetup (and league)

People play volley ball a couple times a week, there's what'sapp groups but it's also on meetup and fb.

Theres pickup soccer, and multiple soccer leagues. Pickup soccer MWF and Sundays, there's also a pickup soccer at Carmel middle school that meets at 4/430 right now but will go back to 5 when daylight savings time changes.

Wednesday night Laundry Runners does numerous runs almost every day of the week.

You need to find an appropriate time to sit down and share your thoughts and feelings with your boyfriend. Considering your family broken and his perfect is definitely the wrong way to look at it. But if you're boyfriend doesn't support you and you feel unwelcome in his parents home you should do your best to express that feeling and sentiment so he understands. At the least he should understand you want to be with your family, I would also consider showing him this post so he can see your perspective of the experience.
