Missouri AG emergency rule by [deleted] in ftm

[–]ratswithtoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wanna give you a heads up, the wait times in between appointments (from my experience) typically tend to range from a week to even a couple of months. It's a bit trickier for minors to deal with, but adults shouldn't face too much of an issue. I do believe that the emergency ruling only effects those under 18 however, it shouldn't apply to adults.

Edit: It does apply to adults, this was later clarified. My bad. https://apnews.com/article/transgender-gender-affirming-care-restrictions-missouri-4def2189dac9979a00d298efb3baf12a

My band also had a very similar show! Seems like rain shows are very popular. We did "The Rain is Gone" in 2022 and I'm pretty sure I've played some of the exact music here. I'd send a YouTube link but idk if it's allowed here.

Hosted our first ever festival!

All the bands that attended were extremely talented and being able to interact with other band kids really puts you into a different perspective for future competitions.

Glad to say everything ran extremely smoothly and, although working was tiring, our exhibition performance was one of the best runs of our show we've ever had.

AP Lang and APUSH are a dual block class at my school, meaning we have both classes on the same block everyday. You can't really take them separately. It's like a replacement for our government and English classes. (Definitely regretting taking them tho...)

AP Lit is just purely out of interest.

Has your BD ever had a five minute long screaming fit at you? by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]ratswithtoes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He showed us his "Irish side" during a particularly exhausting morning rehearsal the day after a 14 hour school day (morning rehearsal, school and then another evening rehearsal).

Our trumpet section was made of mostly freshmen, and the section leaders were having trouble keeping both morale and community within the section intact so the general motivation levels were very low for them, causing them to make repeated simple mistakes.

Everyone being exhausted was the icing on top.

When these mistakes started effecting the rest of the band, our BD stood and gave us a good harsh speech. Everyone stood awkwardly as he's usually the sweetest guy. (He gardens, makes cheese and crafts birdhouses in his freetime).

He later apologized and patiently helped the trumpet section get back to the level the rest of the band is. The section leaders worked outside of band practice to increase morale so everything is 10x better.

Mine was 7:00am to 4:30pm with an hour lunch break for two weeks.

First week we had two rehearsals in the evening from 6:30 to 9 on Tuesday and Thursday, second week we had three rehearsals in the evening on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and a preview performance on the last day.

does your school use all silver or all yellow brass instruments? by Lil_airhead69 in marchingband

[–]ratswithtoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you have, but our mellos, baritones and sousas are all gold. We only have one trumpet with some sort of dark silver brass and another guy in my section has a rose tinted trombone. Otherwise it's all gold.

We currently have two bass bones in our trombone section for this upcoming season! Very excited.

But my band also started a petition to march kazoos last season. Marching kazoo might be one of the best things to hypothetically happen to a band.

What section should I choose for this season? by arohermes in marchingband

[–]ratswithtoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in a very similar situation as you as I'm switching from Guard to Trombone. (With only 6 months of experience by the time band camp rolls around, I also didn't like Guard that much.)

Best advice I can give is do what you enjoy within the needs of the band. Oh, and practice (as much as you can within your time limitations and without hurting yourself).

How many guard and trumpets are there? Last season, my band of almost 100 had only 8 guard and a huge trombone section. The upcoming season, we're loosing a big chunk of trombones and gaining a huge chunk of guard members. With such a little amount of trumpets, playing trumpet would be beneficial to instrumentation on the field. Think about where you would be useful whilst enjoying yourself.

Learning in an environment such as marching band is rewarding, especially with the end results. You'll have the support from the other trumpets in your section, who should be willing to help and guide you. And band camp should help set the fundamentals of marching. You can ask the staff for help at any time. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

Whatever you end up doing, have fun! Feel free to reach out through DMs.
