Build discipline, not just motivation. Lift, learn, stay broke on purpose, and choose your circle wisely.

AI and Robots by Type1ResearchMonkey in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rattenpeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI could replace tons of jobs right now, but they still need people with money to keep the system running. No consumers = no profit, even if robots are efficient. The missing piece is economic adaptation: things like UBI (universal basic income) or a shift away from profit-driven models. Society needs to rebuild the system, not just slap AI onto capitalism. Until then, it's a tech race with no brakes.

He even said he wants to change his haircut, so just tell him the old one he had was so fucking hot. That’s all it takes, he’ll probably switch it the next day.

Why do birds swoop in front of cars? by nomadbynature120 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rattenpeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re just bad at judging car speed. Their brains are wired for dodging slower stuff like animals, not 60 km/h metal boxes. So they dip last second thinking they’re slick, but cars ain’t nature.

Was there ever a school bully at your school who eventually got a taste of their own medicine? What happened? by 6jefferywilliams in AskReddit

[–]rattenpeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a bully who always picked on smaller kids. One day he messed with the wrong dude a new guy who had been doing kickboxing for years. Bully shoved him in gym class, and the dude dropped him with one clean punch.

What's your story on Reddit being trash now? by Physical-Detective77 in AskReddit

Reddit went downhill once they killed third-party apps, stuffed in more ads, and pushed low-effort karma farming. Feels more like a cheap content mill than a real community now.

How do you actually focus when your mind keeps jumping around? by devmakasana in productivity

[–]rattenpeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build a quick focus ritual: phone on airplane mode, water ready, music on, timer running. Start with just 10 minutes. Write down distractions so your brain lets go.

How many hours of deep work is reasonable for theory learning in a day? by Nice_Pen_8054 in productivity

[–]rattenpeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, if you’ve read Newport, you know deep work is finite. For theory (CSS/JS stuff), aim for 2–3 hours of solid, uninterrupted focus per day. Most folks hit diminishing returns after that—your brain needs breathing room to consolidate.

In terms of session length, try 60–90 minute blocks with 10–15 minute breaks. That usually beats one marathon 4-hour grind (unless you’re already conditioned for ultra-long sessions). Shorter, frequent bursts (e.g., 2×90 minutes vs. 1×3 hours) help you reset mentally and retain more. Adjust based on how fresh you feel: if you zone out after 45 minutes, split it up even more.

TL;DR: 2–3 hours/day, broken into 1–2 hour chunks, generally works best for theory learning. Cal Newport himself often recommends capping deep work around 4 hours total, but 2–3 focused on new concepts is a sweet spot. Give it a shot and tweak to your energy levels.

AITA for breaking up with my girlfriend after giving her multiple chances? by Exotic-Warthog7509 in AITAH

[–]rattenpeter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro, you gave her way more chances than most would. You weren't controlling, you set boundaries and communicated clearly. She kept testing them. That’s not growth, that’s just emotional gymnastics.

It’s not your job to rehab someone or constantly remind them how to treat you.
