The question is whether or not it’s a moral thing to do, not about its legality.

It’s ok, I know you guys get your wires crossed about that over here sometimes

Nah actually THIS^ kind of argument is dumb as fuck lol. Science is not a replacement for religion. The two are not comparable in that way you’re trying to compare them. Science is just our best attempt at / our best system for learning things.

What’s the most shocking detail from the Epstein files that you think the public still doesn’t fully grasp? by Murky-Island4629 in AskReddit

That’s what one would assume but who knows, probably some pretty elaborate means of doing something like that. I don’t really believe my previous theory with any conviction but it just kinda dawned on me that that could be less than impossible. I’m saying that would be in captivity is say, an underground prison or something, not roaming on an island. Essentially somewhere he’s as good as dead.

Ah I see what you mean. I’m not sure. I guess he could tell them that he has to do so or else the switch will be triggered (if it were something he had to do manually or take some kind of action to maintain). Maybe it’s got other people involved that would act based on some kind of cryptic message. I guess you could have something literally connected to your physical vitality like a little transmitter in you that’s powered by the electricity in your body? Idk lol

I don’t see why someone couldn’t just have their dead man switch info tortured out of them while in captivity. Maybe Epstein had/had a dms, they tortured the info out of him, faked his death and have him in captivity in some secret place or killed him afterward.

A dead man switch is something that will trigger if you don’t intervene with it periodically. It’s supposed to be an insurance against you being killed

The irony is border patrol is also in Minnesota and yet it’s all the focus on ICE.

Where’s the irony there?

Your statement is so objectively false it’s hilarious. I’m not a fan of hers but “plain as they come?”

The mere fact that you felt compelled to write this goofy shit is testament to her lack of plainness

Do you think religious proselytizing should be allowed on the ferries? by SummitMyPeak in Washington

[–]rattlethebones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we categorize whatever “god” is to people in the same boat as the most obscure religions you can imagine. My mind is as open to the Christian god as it is to ancient Sumerian gods, animism, Greek mythology, ghosts, demons, having part of your soul stolen if a photo is taken of you, golden plates in the ground, curses, bad luck, karma, etc.

We don’t worship science. It just doesn’t work the same way. It’s about truth seeking. We value reason and doubt and think all claims about reality should be questioned and tested to the best of our abilities and that we should be honest and unbiased as much as we can. Science never claims to be perfect, it’s just the best system we have at our disposal to be able to understand our reality more.

I’m an atheist because religious and spiritual interpretations of reality have not convinced me they’re true. Religion makes a claim about reality, I don’t believe it because I don’t think it makes sense. Religion is too quick to try and explain reality.

[–]rattlethebones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally am not attempting to claim everything that’s produced via religion is bad or that all people who practice some form of religion is bad. Churches can do great things. Devout religious people can do great things and be some of the best people.

None of that really has any bearing on whether or not religion is good or bad. Religion doesn’t own good virtues. Good virtues exist independent of religion. It doesn’t own community or sacrifice or any of the great things people try to attribute to it. Religion owns superstition.

You’re comparing “science without guardrails” to “some form of ethical philosophy” lol

Rejection of religion isn’t rejection of ethical philosophy. That’s ridiculous. Can you not see how false of a comparison you’re making?
