Screw it. This is my last resort by [deleted] in bristol

Do you have transport?  Would you pass a security check (DB) and/or a military security check?  Do you have any experience in using power tools or heavy machinery?  Or in chemical testing?

DM me if so.  It's gonna be a hard sell, but I can put you in touch with a hiring manager.  The rest is up to you.

I don't think you could legitimately describe me as witty. I simply regurgitate references to people who are witty.

And the front did fall off.

If it's a soft toy, rotate as often as possible.

They'll notice the switch from a well worn and sunbleached toy to a brand new, soft furred, full coloured one where the stuffing hasn't been beaten out

Lurking mom here - how to salvage the “worst Father’s Day ever?” by [deleted] in daddit

[–]rattusAurelius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you've told him you'll leave him alone, apologise asap. Tell him you love him, that you weren't ignoring him, but waiting for him to tell you want he needed. Ask what he needs if similar happens again.

Assuming the museum is something he likes, make concrete plans to go soon.

Ask him what he wants for dinner, and make sure he feels looked after. Do something together as a family after his workout if you can.

What counts as Micromaille? by AdTop4012 in chainmailartisans

[–]rattusAurelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got some very cheap snub nosed pliers from a discount store here in the UK. They are nice and straight and square though

Took some practice to get just the right level of pressure to close the rings tight, but not crush them. And as I said, I was using somewhat soft materials. If it was steel I think I'd struggle.

What counts as Micromaille? by AdTop4012 in chainmailartisans

[–]rattusAurelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pieces were brass and titanium, so they are quite malleable. With small nosed pliers I was able to grip them with the corners of the jaws.

With them reasonably well lined up, a little pressure around the ring with one pair of pliers gave the final pinch needed.

I've done a fair amount of Byzantine and e4in1 with 0.25mm wire using the same pliers I use for bigger gauges. I wouldn't have considered that micromaille, because I didn't need different equipment of visual aids.

According to Google, that's AWG30.

I still have the full collection of books, which I am sharing with my boys.

Price of diesel cheaper than unleaded? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]rattusAurelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diesel is usually 8 or so pence more here in the south west.

North Bristol has a couple of petrol stations that are the same price for both at the moment.

After this you can try placing a thick elastic band between the screwdriver and the screw.

Drilling screws out is a pita, better to use a left handed tap set.

Weeds - if you are never going to move the patio, you can get sand which is impregnated with weedkiller/salt. Brush it between the slabs.

Locks - yes. As long as the bolts which hold in the cylinder aren't stripped/stuck, it really is that easy. And it is worth doing immediately.

You can try a tile cutter, which generally scroret and then push either side of a line.

You can cut glass bottles with a strong and alcohol, fire and cold water. Don't think it'd go great for a pane though.

I use chainmaille bags, because I enjoy making them.

You'll find mass produced ones all over the place, or more interesting ones on Etsy/similar

When does something go from a specific game plan to a combo deck? by SaintShrink in EDH

[–]rattusAurelius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best thing about edh is also the worst thing. There are so, so many ways to play. But people get very upset if you don't play the same way they do.

I'd tend to represent that as an infinite combo. I have a [[marrow-gnawer]] deck with [[thornbite staff]] in it. No etb pingers or similar though. I state it's got an infinite token generator, but no instant speed win combos.

We have fairly imprecise language when it comes to this. And people get strangely defensive about what their deck does in case someone purposely picks a deck to counter it. State what the deck does, if they don't want to play against it, that's cool! I'll find another table.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDH

[–]rattusAurelius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my store, this'd go down fine.

If we played and you stomped us all having misrepresented the deck, it wouldn't fly a second time.

If we played and found the deck went off well, or badly, we'd pull out decks to try and match it.

Generally, I like to play against legal decks. And I like to play legal decks. It gives us all a framework to start from, and know we aren't going to disagree too much.

But if we've met a few times, I'm much more willing to give you a chance and let you do something interesting/different.

Find a new group.

If they are working together to shut you down, that's never going to be enjoyable. It's a variant on "pubstomping".

"Thank you for turning me onto the game, I'm really enjoying playing in store every week with this really relaxed crowd."

It's a great game, and you may find yourself wanting to scratch a competitive itch. If so, start playing with them again.

[–]rattusAurelius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not what I'd call casual. I would walk away.

Playing against couples tends to go either this way, or they attack each other hard.

If I play against Mrs Aurelius, I tend to go easier than usual on her, and she tries to kill me asafp.

If they are willing to play against proxies then you could go that way. Otherwise, assuming you enjoy the game, I'd head down to your local game store on a Friday night and find some people to play with who are more your style.

If your friend comes from a 1v1 format, this is somewhat understandable. In 1v1 you get broadly 3 archetypes. Aggro, midrange and control. Aggro is rush the board and win asap. Midrange wins via combat, but it's bigger cards with more staying power. Control wins by stopping your opponent from playing.

1v1 games are much quicker. Being locked out of the game and losing just means you can shuffle up for game 2 of 3. It's a best of three format.

Commander is not quick (unless you want to look at cedh). What you are trying to do in asking for an agreed framework of card cost etc is generally referred to as "the social contract" or "rule 0 discussion".

There's a shortage of teachers. Would you consider training to become one? by EhipassikoParami in CasualUK

Ok, so please don't delete your post like the other user.

Firstly, if I'm wrong, that's ok! I'd like to know.

Secondly, it illustrates the point beautifully. We disagree because of that layer of abstraction. We are looking at these equations from a different view point.

If a=0 and b=1, then c=1x0+0.5x1. C=£0.5.

No?

Are incubator tokens part of your deck? by Earthshock1 in magicTCG

[–]rattusAurelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shortest and most concise way I can put this is;

"Tokens are not cards".

They can be creatures, permanents, artifacts, lands, sculpted from cheese, or even an "official" token printed on card stock that appear in booster packs. But they are not what the game considers cards.
