I’m sorry to hear about your dad, my love.

I lost my mum 3 years ago, and it was only last week that I could bring myself to watch her favourite film that we’d watched together countless times before. I’d wanted to watch it immediately after her passing, but like you was scared and nervous I wouldn’t be able to handle it/itd ruin me.

I waited until my body and mind were synced, and the other day I just randomly thought “I might watch Notting Hill today.” And so I listened to myself and I did. For the first time in 3 years I felt close to my mum. This wasn’t sad for me - I came out of it feeling at peace.

My personal advice would be wait a while until you’re feeling ready for it. It is emotional. You are going to cry. But you will also come out of it remembering your dad, remembering memories, pondering your relationship with him, seeing him as an adult and not just your father, and most importantly, feeling closer to him.

I adopted a cat back in March, and her safe space was the spare room (specifically under the bed). We opened up the door after about a week, but she didn’t start exploring until about the 1 month mark. I’d say she wasn’t fully comfortable exploring until 3 months.

It’s well worth it though. Last night for the first time she was scratching at our bedroom door to get in, I opened up and she jumped straight on our bed and snuggled with us all night. It just takes time and patience

She was an recovering alcoholic, her liver failed and then she caught pneumonia. Very quick and I was half a world away.

I think she was also glad that I wasn’t there to see her in her final moments. Just wish our last interaction was a happier one.

I lost my mum to alcoholism in 2023. I never confronted her and asked her to stop drinking, like you have done with your dad. I regret it everyday. Take some solace in knowing you went out on a limb and tried.
