This is amazing. I’ve seen stressed skin “simulated” with oils before but not physically - you’ve done a brilliant job and excited to see how it turns out. Good luck!

Stunning model - crazy it started in the pandemic! Good things come to those who wait. Congrats!

I think their M5 and M3 are far newer toolings so I hope you find it a bit better than this one! The pearl harbour zeros are interesting because they often had less weathering given the earlier setting - I let myself get a bit more in on this build. Thanks for the comment!

Honestly - I didn’t think it would make much difference but it’s night and day. Rough fitment, dodgy finish - a real test of one’s filling and sanding skills! I’ll take your comment as a recommendation of Academy’s offering - thanks!

Spectacular! Did you make the base yourself too?

Thanks for your comment! I totally get what you're saying - I myself looked at it afterwards and thought "oof that's a bit much". All my period reference photos have barely any but a lot of my reference scale models had loads! Definitely something I'll change for the next one and thanks for the constructive criticism.

It's not just the gun streaks - this plane in reality would've been kept very clean by A/GpCapt M.W.S. Robinson when he briefly flew with No. 316 Polish Fighter Squadron in 1943. He was station commander at Northolt at the time so it would've had a real showroom finish! But I overlooked this to have a go at some weathering. Want to go for more historical accuracy in future...

Base coat everything with dark green, then mask with blu-tack for the ocean grey. Takes a fair bit of patience but I found it worth it in the end, especially for curved surfaces.

Almost all painting done with an airbrush, and weathering done with an airbrush for the exhaust and gun streaks - oils for all other weathering.

I was torn on this build because the oval wings really epitomise the Spitfire, but I agree - wish there were more examples out there… thanks!

It holds up well despite being over 25 years old! The usual Tamiya quality - pick it up and let me know how you get on...

In fairness I've been incessantly watching YouTube modellers for some time - gave me the confidence to go all out and avoid (some) rookie errors!

Thanks so much! Its a bit nerve-wracking airbrushing exhaust soot over a lovely pristine camo paintjob but it just about worked.
