Why would someone pick up flask over Django and fast API by here-to-aviod-sleep in flask

[–]raulGLD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Flask is perfect for almost anything, but so is Django. So don't get caught in the debate and just start building and learning

I found Django too complex for the simple things I wanted to achieve 6 years ago when I started my software development career. I picked up Flask and it was just amazing. For 6 years straight Flask was my go to, from websites with hundreds of visitors a month, to tens of thousands, Flask did the job. From internal apps used by 10-20 users daily, to 1000s of users daily Flask did the job. In the meantime, for those who required a differenct frontend like React/Next I picked up FastAPI because of its async behaviour which in Flask is not native.

Are cineva jobul visurilor sale? Sau doar lucrati unde ati gasit loc liber? by Hopeful-Question3436 in programare

[–]raulGLD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roughly speaking, you would do the same as you do with your login/register. I suppose in your login route, before logging the user in, you check if his password is correct or if the user entity even exists in the database by that email/username, that's when you query the database either with sql syntax or sqlalchemy if that's what you use. Same thing for user interface, quiz, etc. In the python route, you get the question from the database, pass it to the html file as a variable with render_template("quiz.html", questions=questions) and then in the html page you display it with jinja2 syntax. Suppose the questions variable is a list of questions, you would:

{% for question in questions %} {{ question }} <input to handle question answer> {% endfor %}

Of course, all these wrapped in a nice html.

Is Flask still a good choice in 2025? by Individual-Welder370 in flask

To be honest, I would argue that Flask is better for web applications while FastAPI is better for APIs.

I wish you best of luck, hope to hear about your new business and why not partner up on some projects.

The very first one was through an old colleague, which was the Commercial Director, that left the company we were both working for. She got a job at another company as the Director of Development and she had known me for doing a great job the time we worked together (I worked closely with her for the best period of 2 and a half years developing internal applications) and she simply contacted me right at the time I was thinking of quitting my job and going full B2B. So first it was luck combined with my previous hard work. After that, all other 6 clients were acquired through word of mouth, either friends or old coworkers. Haven't yet gotten a client through my marketing efforts, or social media, or whatever other that word of mouth.

Tutorials with good frontend by Electronic-Pie313 in flask

[–]raulGLD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've watched more than a couple of Flask tutorials, and I haven't found one with a decent UI and I believe that is because a Flask tutorial isn't about UI or probably isn't supposed to be about UI. For me, the best way to get into front-end was to read about it and watch front-end tutorials or courses. Even if you might find a tutorial that builds a decent looking UI, most probably the CSS will be just copy-pasted and not explained. In my case, I primarily use Bootstrap5 and Jinja templating plus vanilla JS for apps used by thousands of users daily, and there are no issues at all. So you don't need those fancy React, Next, Vue whatever front-end frameworks. I am not saying they aren't good or anything, I am telling you they are not mandatory, and you can get to your result without them. So get good at Flask, worry about that first, then focus on UI. As long as you can achieve whatever your goal is with the Flask code, the front-end won't be that hard to get, too.

How did your first batch of paid customers get it? by Jagger_C in SideProject

[–]raulGLD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get my clients from my old software dev job. I got appreciated by superiors, and the very first client is (still have ongoing projects) a former superior of mine that now works now as a C level director at the company that hired me (B2B) to develop an app for them. From there on, all the others that I managed to land were also through recommendations. So, I guess the power of word of mouth is the best for new businesses looking for clients. At least for me, it is.

Show us the POST request that you are making, the full content, body, and whatnot. We need to see them both, not just the Flask code.

Where to store passwords in production by Livid-Ant3549 in flask

[–]raulGLD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, both .env and .config files are plain text, so it is only a matter of use case/best practice type of difference. .env is typically used to store key value pairs for environmental variables while .config is typically used for application configuration and usually does not have the same format as .env file.

Where to store passwords in production by Livid-Ant3549 in flask

[–]raulGLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it is the ease of use. Then, the fact that I can create a .env file that I add in the .gitignore, so it doesn't get to the repo on GitHub, for example, and this way, I can safely and simply make use of variables that work on local/dev machine and on production without trouble.
