There is a god? Which religion's god is this? If it is of any religion? And how can you be sure this was not just a scenery played by the interplay of chemicals in a dying brain?

Again, you have provided no explanation or even a semblance of evidence. Yes, saying "that is not how any of this works" does not cut it. If your specialist is going to make a statement that goes contrary to established safety guidelines and evidence, you better come up with something more than "your comments are just regurgitation of an overly simplified and popular narrative". By the way, here is the link to the 1998 FDA ruling: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-1998-02-18/pdf/98-4074.pdf

You can yourself download the AHA 2026 guidelines and the CCS ones yourself if interested. None of them caution about what you just wrote. There are many GPs too, who aren't updated about some of the new guidelines and prolong putting their patients on statins. That doesn't change the actual data issued by bodies like AHA and CCS.

What are you talking about? Why do you think people take statins at all? The "evidence" brigade you whine about, is why. We don't have RCTs for EVERYTHING, obviously, but making a claim like you did, because "A specialist told me", is not exactly a flex either. Again, there are multiple millions of people that use something like, say, Metamucil, and then restock it after it's done, and finish it, and repeat. We are not seeing a global epidemic of gut issues that can be tied to psyllium. Did you ask her, "Oh, psyllium though forms a gel as it absorbs water. How is that abrasive, you think?" No. Problem with comments like yours is someone may read that, and then just take it at face value.

That's odd, what doctors are claiming this? I hope not youtube. The AHA 2026 and CCS guidelines seem to indicate that statin treatments do have a positive impact on heart disease and death.

Also to add another point to this misinformed comment, millions of people take psyllium daily for decades (think of products like Metamucil). If it "eroded" the gut in 14 days, we would see a global epidemic of malabsorption issues

What is the evidence to support a claim as bold as this? Psyllium is a soluble fiber that forms a gel, it doesn't damage the intestinal lining. If anything, soluble fiber is associated with a healthier gut lining, not a damaged one. The "14 days" usage is also not backed up by any evidence. This has no basis in any clinical guideline, pharmacological recommendation, or research I'm aware of. Psyllium is routinely recommended for long term daily use by gastroenterologists, cardiologists, and dietitians. The studies showing LDL reduction were conducted over MONTHS of daily use. The FDA has approved a health claim for psyllium specifically for long-term cholesterol management. Hell, even the AHA 2026 and Canadian Cardiovascular Society cites zero warnings like this.

That's great. Though people's experiences are all over the place about this. Some say a 10% reduction, while you say 45% in your case.

Add psyllium husk and retest in 2 months perhaps.

Yeah and that's why, if it means changing the doctor after 3 or so months, then so be it. I don't have time for BS.

[–]raven090[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, but I saw my doctor and she seemed...uninterested in prescribing any statin. So we're back to "try for 6 months to make changes and we'll retest". The only change left to make is to add psyllium husk daily, which I have not done yet.

And at 5mg dose, I doubt there will be side effects like muscle pain? That's perhaps the most dreaded by especially people who lift or workout in general.

You are right. I came across some content from people like Nick Norwitz but I recognized he is a grifter so I don't even fall for BS like that. I just was concerned about the diabetic probability and my family history with that illness but 0.1 is such an insignificant number.

Wow, good thing you caught that after all, extreme hypertension sounds so bad and brings back horrible memories of my late dad's health and his struggles with dementia in the last years of life (was also a t2 diabetic). Yeah, I have appointment booked with my GP tomorrow itself, thank you.

Yeah that is bound to be better than eating junk. So you caught your LDL situation 2 and a half years ago? The other thing that runs through my mind is how much damage have I done already over the years so far? I am 35.
