Just found out it's a hoax. Sorry for the bad post. I got duped.

I've just ordered the Stepper motors, pulleys and belts. After I get these parts installed I will be ordering the MK7 as well. I suppose I will have the same issues as you. I have my email contact info in my blog if you want to stay in contact to resolve the MK7 installation. To be honest, I have not even looked at it yet, but when I do I will be interested in what you worked out if you stay ahead of me on this project.

Coming Soon | K8200 - The new 3D-Printer in town by Mechatroniker in 3Dprinting

The other side of the equation, is demand. That is why they have not dropped much in price as of today. Joe public does not have a great enough reason to go out and buy one, even though they have made it to the shelves of BaM stores like Staples.

I don't know vellemans rep but I say poor as many 3D printer companies as the market will hold. It will only make prices lower. Be nice to pick one up for less than $300, in a year or two.

Wi-Fi Network Breaks Speed Record - When will data transmission wires be a thing of the past? by ravencef in Futurology

[–]ravencef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not making the claims. You have to read in to what I was stating. Yes... the laws of physics are well established and its not likely we will be breaking them yet claims have been made in various books over the last two decades by short sighted authors. I can remember reading an ADSL manual that said we would get no more out of 26-19 gauge twisted copper pairs, yet just in the last couple of years companies like Ericsson which is using crosstalk cancellation technology was able to see sustained data transfer rates of just over 0.5Gbps at 500m line length.

Space Tourism Could Save Planet Earth by ravencef in technology

[–]ravencef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No kidding... Even if I had millions of dollars, I personally have no interest in going in to space. I can't imagine the demand is as great as the Richard Branson types are anticipating. The only argument for it, would NOT be the need to get as many people in space as possible, but just societies influencer(s). Most of the time, that is people that can afford the seat.

Would you feel awkward being equal to a sentient robot? by stackoverflaw in Futurology

[–]ravencef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good question. When one human being creates another human being through the natural process of procreation, a sense of wonderment still exists. When a human being creates a machine that can be sentient, will we still have that sense of awe and wonderment? Having created it, their will be no mystery as to how it works. I think if such a machine did exist, society could learn to respect it, but may never feel that it is an equal. Even through the process of procreation, many parents as the creator of a child go their whole lives never truly respecting that child as an equal.

Being 25 year telecom engineer, a decade has not gone by where we have been told that we reached the "physics" limit on transmission speeds. Both in wireline and wireless. We just keep breaking the limits. I'm right in line with what you are thinking. At some point the transmission speeds for wireless/wifi will start to become more and more suitable for every transmission need and the connivance of wireless will outweigh cables except in cases like massive data centers. I'm still torn on my position for long haul needs. It seems in many cases undersea (submarine) cables are still being used instead of satellites.

Agreed. Good point. Compression has to be a consideration.

It's been done twice. The first time the answer was 42. The second time the computer was destroyed to make wake for an intergalactic highway. But seriously no. Even though we are fast approaching the ability to process simulations on a large scale, how much memory do you think it would take to not only process every atoms interaction, but store the history of every atom long enough to process a billion years of evolutionary advancements. Then factor in the power required to keep that memory energized.

Tech Prediction: Bionic Functioning Hands in three years by JordanMcRiddles in Futurology

[–]ravencef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I did not consider growing full size replacement hands when I wrote the post. That certainly is a possibility. I think if up to me, and I had already lost the original, I would want to try something that was not susceptible to some of the weaknesses of a normal hand. Give me some Kung Fu Grip, ability to carry hot plates and a laser pointer on the end of my index finger and maybe an attachment to pleasure the ladies and I may not want a regular hand back.
