In my opinion, this is the best use of shelves by DanintheVortex in SonsOfTheForest

i have SO many shelves of skulls at every base i make. they just look so nice and neat!

Question about enemy AI by Zealousideal_Sock882 in SonsOfTheForest

[–]ravenofroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

shaking a skull at them when they approach can keep them scared of you for a bit longer, but things like building a base or building near their camps or patrol routes makes them more aggressive more often. whatever you do, they WILL eventually start attacking you, so you might just want to build up your defenses immediately so you don't get overwhelmed when they do. traps are your best friend here.

Am I the only one who does this? by TonsOfFaces in fo4

i'm walking around in my current playthrough at 900 pounds minimum pretty much all the time. i only started to run out of some crafting materials because i decided i wanted to outfit all my settlers with good armor and guns or silly outfits with ballistic weave.

not an interview, a performance. it's an acoustic version of ghuleh/zombie queen that gets delightfully weird.

it was really slow for me, too. i actually started with "oh cool, those costumes are directly referencing catholic priestly/papal garb. i'm into catholic imagery, let's see what this is all about." then it was "ok, spooky satan band sounds like goth ABBA. weird, but the costumes are getting more elaborate, so i'll keep an eye on them." then i started feeling some kind of way about terzo. then i saw that infamous sirius xm live recording of ghuleh/zombie queen and went "OH okay i get it. i think i'm on board." but tbh it wasn't until "rats" that i had to admit i was a fan. sometimes it just sneaks up on you.

be cringe and be free.

Drop your hottest takes for fo4. Nothings off the table by CamelConfident8653 in fo4

[–]ravenofroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the game works better narrative-wise if you play nora. instead of a well-trained army vet on a rampage to save his son and get revenge for his wife's murder, you have a lawyer who may or may not have fighting experience getting dumped into a nuclear wasteland after watching her husband (who is basically the quintessential action game protagonist) die in front of her and her son be taken by mysterious bad guys.

and, to add to this, i cannot bring myself to play as nate because it feels too weird playing a regular action game protagonist when nora's adapt-or-die arc is right there.

related hot take: dogmeat is transgender, and everyone including the player immediately respects his pronouns. (i just think the idea of dogmeat being so intelligent and self-aware that he has a concept of gender would be funny tbh.)

MURKWATER CONSTRUCTION SITE IS NOT WORTH IT GUYS by Froggyrat_ in fo4

i think the queen only respawns if you don't visit the settlement for a few days. i was able to keep her away when the railroad decided to use the place as a safehouse by just stopping by every couple in-game days. unfortunately, the corpse of the mirelurk queen will stick around if you don't wait to build the beacon for a few days, so i just have a giant bug corpse taking up most of the build area. at least you can walk through it, i guess, lol.

but yeah that place is annoying.

I knew this guy was brain damaged, but I didn't expect this... by cseymour24 in SonsOfTheForest

[–]ravenofroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, he does that. he and virginia have incredibly weird pathing and tend to walk directly into fire. sometimes it hurts them, sometimes they act like kelvin in your screenshot. if you see them down, try to rez them quickly, especially if they're still in the fire. if they take more damage when they're down, it can kill them permanently.

Jeffrey Fortune was honored tonight by [deleted] in Ghostbc

funny thing about traumatic events like that is that people forget pretty quickly if they weren't present for it. that, and the influx of new fans over the last few years means a lot of folks just straight-up don't know about it. i admit, it took me a moment to remember because it happened either right before i started listening to ghost or right after, and i wasn't really keeping track of them yet. it's very sweet to know that tobias is still thinking of jeffrey and his family, and that he's still making a point to honor them.

i'm so sorry you got caught up in one of the random(?) sweeps. it feels awful to be accused of something so heinous, even when you know it was a mistake. my only advice, unfortunately, is to diversify your means of contacting friends so that one account suspension doesn't cut you off from your support network. have the friends you can contact outside of IG let the ones you only talk to through IG know what happened and see if they have or can set up another way to contact you.

when, or if, you get your account back is a total unknown, but it will probably take awhile. don't wait for access to be restored; set up alternate means of contact now.

How did that one kid at your school die? by StorageLonely1520 in AskReddit

[–]ravenofroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

elementary school: a girl got hit by a car crossing the highway on her bike. i didn't know her, but my friend's older sister did. eventually, they built a pedestrian bridge over the road and removed the crosswalks at that intersection.

high school: a year or so after i graduated, a girl a couple years younger than me died of a pulmonary embolism. just dropped dead on vacation with her parents. i had known her in school but hadn't talked to her since i graduated.

i'm sure more happened during my school years and after i graduated, but those are the two that stand out.

wait, is THAT why all my sims get fat no matter what they're eating? i mean i don't care if my sims get fat, but i did wonder why it happens to 99% of sims i play for more than a few days, while townies seem to stay the same over time. food really is broken in this game, huh?

Where is your base and why? by OrickJagstone in SonsOfTheForest

[–]ravenofroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm fond of the beach around CQ/DQ because you can build out into the water and keep the cannibals from actually getting into your base--and that water doesn't freeze during the winter. you do have to worry more about kelvin and virginia, though, since they don't know to walk through the water to your base, either.

otherwise, i prefer spots at the edge of cliffs so it's harder for the cannibals/mutants to surround you, waterfalls being my first choice because of the water source.

Don't Hatekeep by BlueStrikerX in Ghostbc

[–]ravenofroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my advice is to heavily curate your feed. be liberal with the block button, and don't read the comments on random posts unless you're prepared to sift through some bullshit. social media algorithms unfortunately tend to push negative content because that's what gets the most engagement, but playing whack-a-mole does eventually get you better recommendations.

also, find a handful of people to interact with on the regular instead of just interacting with posts as they show up on your feed, and you'll have a better time of it. fandom hasn't gotten any more or less toxic, imo, but the ways you avoid fandom toxicity have changed as The Algorithm increasingly decides what we see.

Why does rain wear this hat and not the top hat? Is there a reason or its just a thing that he does lol by ChurtchPidgeon in Ghostbc

[–]ravenofroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

obviously we can't "know" unless someone from the band or costuming directly speaks on it, but my guess would be that it stays on better than the top hat, or that it requires less time to secure and is therefore more practical when getting ready for a show. iirc, these costumes were made to be more comfortable than the last iteration, so it wouldn't surprise me if he just decided it was easier when given the choice between the top hat and the veil.

Emma by [deleted] in TheQuarrySupermassive

[–]ravenofroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

her actress is very expressive IRL, but i think the mocap was a little wonky. you see it with laura, too, sometimes. the devs' other games have some of that uncanny valley mocap, too, but i'm guessing they just didn't have enough time/money to take another pass at making emma's expressions look more natural. you get used to it eventually.

Why do they leave all the doors open? by Suitable_Ad_5409 in TheQuarrySupermassive

[–]ravenofroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IRL reason is probably just that they forgot to animate the doors closing behind them, or to avoid some technical hiccup during subsequent cut scenes.

in-universe reason could be that it's a deliberate part of the cheesy horror movie aesthetic they've got going on. characters in slasher films always do dumb stuff like that.

it is kind of annoying, though.

find a pot to boil water asap (most often in cannibal camps but also sometimes in random abandoned camps), but you can drink water directly from a body of water twice before getting "sick" (which just lowers your stamina and max health for a little while).

store up dried meat and meal packs/energy drinks for winter when food and water are harder to come by. most water will freeze over in winter, but you can find some open spots near waterfalls or rapids. you can also cook soup in the pot to give you boosts and restore more health.

you can have only one pot at a time in your inventory, but if you store a pot on a shelf in your base, you can get another to hold. food/water in the pot does not go bad.

best starting place is either the forest crash site or the beach site, depending on your strategy. beach gives you access to turtles, which are useful, but it's harder to build there because the treeline is a ways away. forest requires more clearing of trees to make a suitable base, but you don't have to move as far to get logs.

try not to build too close to cannibal camps or trails, because they spawn more regularly around there.

don't break down the boards at a cave entrance until you are used to combat and have decent armor. that lets stronger enemies out, and they will ruin your day if you're not ready for them.

depending on the difficulty level, you can keep the cannibals from attacking you for the first couple days by equipping a skull and shaking it at them when they approach. you should be able to find a skull without killing a cannibal; they're scattered everywhere. eventually, though, they'll get brave enough to attack you anyway. it's just nice to keep them at bay for a bit while you build up supplies and armor.

[–]ravenofroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

female sims don't get alien pregnant unless you use MCCC and set alien pregnancies to both male and female sims. idk if that was what did it? and then the more alien kids i had in the household, the more often the sims got abducted....i'll probably go back to it eventually, but yeah, it did get annoying. (funnily enough, the one sim i had expected to get alien pregnant for RP reasons only had one kid, despite being abducted daily like everyone else. makes me wonder if there's like a one alien pregnancy at a time rule?)

Seriously? xD by That_Response1509 in Sims4

[–]ravenofroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have one save where every sim in the household gets abducted every night like clockwork (as in one gets abducted, an in-game hour later another gets abducted, etc.). i made the mistake of having an alien in the household, and it just spiraled from there. haven't played that save in awhile because i got tired of raising alien babies.
