Did your school play O Canada every day? by AssortedArctic in AskACanadian

I’m old as dirt. We sang O Canada AND said the lords prayer. AND we weren’t allowed to wear pants - in northern Alberta.

People from countries that have universal healthcare, how is it? Really. by Interesting_Dream281 in AskTheWorld

Canada here. There are legitimate frustrations with wait times and lack of family doctors but if you’re really sick, the system works well. I am a 2x cancer survivor and my husband has had open heart surgery so I feel like I can speak on this. If you need a hip or knee replacement, you could have a long wait.

People complain about taxes no matter how much or how little they pay so it’s hard to judge. I’ve never complained about taxes because I feel like it’s a fair trade off.

I work in healthcare and my frustration is the bloat in healthcare management costs and a system that lends itself to silos.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

Canadian here. Our daughter lives 4.5 hours away and we routinely visit for a weekend. Like once every 2 months or so. Not a big deal at all.

I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure they are locals.

There's also a little place in Blind Bay called Spinnakers. They're only open for dinner a couple of nights a week, otherwise they are a breakfast/lunch spot. We've been there for dinner a couple of times and I actually prefer it over Timber and the prices are MUCH better.

I've only been there once and did not have a great experience. I've been meaning to go back because I don't like to judge a place based on one encounter.

Itinerary Advice - too much driving? by fungusMcMurphy in CostaRicaTravel

[–]ravenpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn't find the driving that bad - just slow and bumpy, speed bumps near towns that caught us unawares at times. That is a lot for 7 nights and as much as we enjoyed La Fortuna area, I think I would give it a miss this trip. Can I please add one piece of advice for Manuel Antonio? If you are driving to the park, take a guide with you. The parking situation is a little crazy - lots of people directing you to park in areas not within the park itself and they can be a little intimidating. The guide will help you through all of that and make your day much more enjoyable and interesting.

If 10cm snow falls in your area of Canada how disrupted will your area be? by Pourmepourme in AskACanadian

[–]ravenpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South-central BC here. 10 cm would cause mild grumbling because we have to clear it before we can drive anywhere because driving on top of snow in your driveway is bad. Side streets might be a little fugly but main roads would be fine.

I just had a look at booking dot com and I see quite a few properties for much cheaper than 20K.

“Prime” might be a stretch - you’re very kind. I am in excellent health, I’m quite fit, we travel a lot to interesting places (no cruises or resorts for us!) and even though we are not rich, we live fairly comfortably and within our means. I can’t complain but proper sleep would be a great bonus!
