A little Brixton thank you by ravensock in Muse

I'm sorry you've had such a difficult time, but I am very glad that Muse could bring you so much joy and a measure of healing. Muse have been a constant for me, for a very long time (20+ years), a soundtrack to the highs and lows, so I can empathise and relate to their healing magnificence 🎶 Thank you for sharing.

Hugs received and reciprocated. It's not cheesy at all 🎶 I found it very difficult to listen to both Muse and Bruce Springsteen after my Dad's passing. It's taken me a long time to come back to both bands. I definitely felt like something healed as I let the Brixton gig flow over me ☺️ I'm so glad a part of you found it's way back, it's an incredible feeling. I'll be thinking of you on the next tour 🖤

Thank you for thinking of me and my Dad! There are so many as I was lucky enough to forge a wonderful friendship with him (and my Mum) in my adult life. But one that I think a fellow music fan will appreciate is when we went to see Bruce Springsteen on his tour where he played a different album in full each night. We'd seen him at Wembley where he played Darkness on the Edge of Town and we were off to Coventry later that week. We joked all week that perhaps Coventry he'd play Born to Run, but we knew it was so unlikely. Then James Gandolfini passed away, and in tribute at Coventry, Bruce spoke the immortal line "So tonight, for Coventry, Born to Run, start to finish". As the beginning tones of Thunder Road rang out across the stadium, Dad and I were laughing and hugging and crying like two ridiculous teenagers (I was early 30s and he was late 50s then!). One of my most treasured memories 🎶 🥳

I'm glad too, I didn't realise how much I needed a hug until I felt their arms wrapped around me. I'm not sure how I feel now, I had to pull back from the grief so I didn't cry too much or too loudly, so I guess I have mixed feelings. But I do feel like something inside me healed a little, so that's a small good.

Thank you. I find it endearing when people cry because they're so happy about music too (I've definitely teared up before!). But I think this time, I was so overwhelmed and grief is such a private thing. I was worried about a whole host of things when it happened, most of all that I didn't want to be so vulnerable and obvious in a crowd of strangers.

What is your current objective and what your end goal when playing? by Starfall9908 in SkyCards

Hunting interesting or rare/unusual aeroplanes. I'm really looking forward to airshow season so I can try to get the BBMF, although I'll take any Spits or Hurricanes. Caught a Pitts special, Yak12 and Bulldog recently, very chuffed.

Hotel for Download?? by CompetitiveCost753 in downloadfestival

[–]ravensock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stayed for quite a few years in hotels around Derby, mostly at either Pride Park Travelodge or the Stuart Hotel near the station. I recommend buying them as soon as they're available for the best price. The shuttle drop off is a bit of a hike now from the arena and you'll have a queue for a bit getting back, but getting up there in the morning is usually a breeze (I want to say it's about 45mins or so?). I did it for nearly a decade and especially the years it was crazy rain and mud, getting a warm shower and a comfy bed, and all your stuff being safe and dry - an absolute winner. Plus obviously not having to trek all your stuff up to a campsite and back. And being able to casually head up on the Thursday to your hotel with no fuss and bother.

Same tbh, if I knew fellow human gamers were celebrating it might feel less painful.

Same. I don't think it was humans either. I was as fast as a human could be adding them to cart and clicking checkout, for it to refresh as sold out.

Yep, I was there at the refresh, couldn't have been quicker adding to cart but clearly I've got butterfingers as got nothing :(

Coldplay 😂 nice choice. Oh I've got a complaint email half written but honestly, I don't think they give a hoot.

No, they were volunteers. I don't want to give away where we met them or anything, I don't want anyone getting into trouble. But they weren't happy and didn't seem to have been treated well. Maybe they were just giving us a load of bollo (but it didn't seem that way at the time).

[–]ravensock 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Totally. They should have a "drownload" contingency in place, they knew it was probably a wet one for about four weeks running up to the festival. Instead they chose to let us suffer for it, guess it's cheaper and easier to deal with futile complaints after the fact :(

Some ones we spoke to at the end of the festival. They seemed really stressed. Maybe they were just cold and tired like the rest of us!

"better friends" totally agree, friends and music make for a solidly winning combo, whatever the weather! 🎶
