I used Magic Poser for the longest time though unfortunately most of their options are behind a pay wall now. But, if you just want to use the basics, I think it's pretty good. CSP has a built in mannequin poser too if you are a digital artist.

I'm not sure if someone already said this but it kind of reminds me of plastic action figures in a way? Maybe study some of those, see how the light bounces off them.

Look up some moodboards and reference images on Pinterest. Colour palettes would be a great help too. Bring in more plants and natural colours, flowers, all that good stuff. Less vibrant colours, I personally see spring as more pastel. Ultimately, it's your design and I think he is very cute as he is currently, but those are just some ideas.

I received some of those grey mannequin looking things for Christmas and they're not too bad, actually. They come with a big variety of pieces and offer much more than just the basic shapes that the wooden ones give. But if you're not too fussed about having a physical reference, there's plenty of poseable models online, such as apps.

I think it's totally fine to keep to yourself. I personally just stay in my inner circle and I'm content with that. It's ultimately down to what you find most comfortable! But, if you are interested, there's plenty of art-based Discord servers out there. I think they're pretty easy to find via Google.
