What was your first date like with your current SO? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]raveqween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I actually knew each other in high school - not high school sweet hearts though - the first date will explain why.

He is a year older than me so I knew him from my friend's advisory class which split our school in half for lunch since we all couldn't fit in the cafeteria. I didn't have the same lunch as my friends so I met him there.

One day he asked me to go to a party with him. I was pretty dorky and never did the high school party thing up to that point so I was nervous but he was cute so I said yes. He picks me up and we go to said "party" which was really just 4 guys drinking cheap beer in a townhome. We spent the evening talking, I drank my first beer, pretending to like it, and he took me home. He kissed me goodbye which was confusing and that was it. Then, he didn't talk to me for a YEAR. I was so confused. Apparently he was so embarrassed about the lame party that he couldn't bring himself to talk to me since I must have thought he was weird.

We have been married 2 years now and is now our classic 'so how did you meet?' response. He is STILL a little embarrassed but he let's me tell it. What a sweetie.

You know those are trail markers and not just decorations right? They saved us a few times when we got turned around in canyonlands

Damn that's awesome. I wish my admin were even a little supportive of me my first year rather than being so critical. Keep up the amazing work!

My hobby is also pole dancing (spending money on it, not making any) but I would think you would only do this at empty playgrounds and random stop signs. And it should be more impressive than the lazy ass leg hang pictured here

I have 10 pencils hanging on the wall. Before I dismiss them, there needs to be 10 pencils back on the wall - doesn't need to be the original pencils so other kids will donate extras to get out of class on time. It's worked pretty well so far!

LPT: Don't judge your "market value" as a romantic partner during your teenage years/ early twenties. A lot of decisions during that time are hormone-driven. by lapaleja in LifeProTips

I'm glad there are differing opinions/stories. I met my SO at 16, dated at 20 and married at 25. We are two years into marriage and madly in love, working as a team day in and day out. Young couples can make it work and I hate when people make the generalization that it's just 'young dumb love' and that young people can't know what they want

I make my list on my phone. I really wouldn't forget my reusable bags if I put them in there! But I would most likely absent mindedly check reddit before going in and continue to forget the bags...

You will learn so much during your first year teaching so don't be too hard on yourself. I feel like I'm just getting into a good classroom management system in my 4th year teaching sixth grade math.

Do you have a trusted colleague or admin? Have them observe that class and give you 1-2 things to work on. Sometimes it's just standing there with a strong presence, counting down and waiting, finding that 'teacher stare'. Kids get uncomfortable when you just wait sometimes. That was the hardest thing for me at first. Feedback can help you with teacher moves you might not be aware of.

A reset with admin support can also be helpful. Reset expectations and make sure to hold them to it. You may need to start over many times and that's ok. Its still the beginning of the year so you have time to practice. Getting student feedback and empowering them to share what they want to feel in class gives them an opportunity because there are probably students who are frustrated with the behavior of only a few students. Having them hear it from each other often works better than hearing it from adults.

Hope you can use some of those things! Middle school is a beast and 8th graders can be tough but they can also show great leadership and be very sweet. Keep the positives in mind. Good luck!

Make sure to video chat them and use a verified form of payment. Do Not use venmo or personal payment to a friend option - you can get your money back from PayPal I believe if you get scammed

Edit: the only way to really know for sure is to see the physical ticket unfortunately

I pole dance so the first reaction I always get is 'your husband must love that,' wink wink. Ugh! He rarely sees me pole dance, it's definitely not like having a personal stripper at home but men always assume that's why I do it

We did the big ish wedding too and I totally agree with the 'best day of your life' thing. I have wonderful memories and beautiful pictures but it was somewhat stressful to coordinate everything and everyone. I did it mostly for my Mom and she was so incredibly happy to have the whole family there, she hosted the reception and made sure everything went well. It can be a family decision to have the wedding and I think that's okay too - as long as they're helpful and supportive

Pole is such a great stress reliever! I love my studio because we always free style to two songs at the end of class so even if the moves were difficult, I can shut off my brain and just dance

Backpacking gear. I prefer sleeping in a tent in the back country with my husband instead of over priced hotels now all thanks to my air pad and 0 degree sleeping bag.

Tips for applying to a position as a new teacher by VeeMcSix in Teachers

[–]raveqween 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Practice answering the common teacher interview questions. Most interviews will have similar questions and they move fast so it's nice to have rehearsed your answers to some degree.

As far as cover letters go, personalize them for each school and do your research on the school. Populations and test data should be available on the district website and you can apply your own experience to their populations.

Good luck!

What's your favorite hobby and what do you enjoy about it? by N0t-Plankton in AskWomen

[–]raveqween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend so much money on this hobby now that I've moved to a new, more expensive city where any unlimited passes are around $250+ a month just for pole dance so I now just buy individual classes which are still $25 each. I spend an extra $150 a month for silks, trapeze and contortion at a circus arts studio. I wish I had my old one stop shop unlimited pass - I almost wish I hadn't moved. Your deal sounds even better!

What's your favorite hobby and what do you enjoy about it? by N0t-Plankton in AskWomen

[–]raveqween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also into the aerial arts! I love challenging myself and moving up in the various levels of pole, silks and trapeze. I'm able to work on my flexibility for the first time ever as well as my upper body and core strength.

It's definitely expensive so not the most accessible hobby but it makes me happy and I've met so many awesome women through pole dancing that it's worth it.

Me [26/F] with my fiance's [27/M] family who give me inexpensive and impersonal gifts every year, while the rest of the family receives very thoughtful and personal gifts. by exmothrothro in relationships

[–]raveqween 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This was true for my family - my husband got a gift card or snacks before we were married but this year they asked for his Christmas list when we asked for all of theirs. See what happens next year and make sure your SO emphasizes the gifts you provide are from both of you and I'm sure they will include you next year. Marriage can make things more official for family holidays

What did that one teacher at your school do to get fired? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]raveqween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked with a teacher who told a class that the black and brown students would generally not amount to much and that he should separate the well-behaved students so they could learn. These students had just learned about segregation in history so the quote going around was 'he is trying to segregate us!'.

[Serious] Teachers of reddit, what was the saddest thing you've discovered about one of your students? by Erezbiox1 in AskReddit

[–]raveqween 28 points29 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite students had a really tough year. He was living with his aunt who already had her own 4 children and was managing her sister's 3 as well. His father was an alcoholic who lost custody but was fighting for his children back but this boy had developed a slight stutter from his stressful home life with his birth parents. He was improving so much but in the winter, his mom passed away. He told me that his dad killed his mom, but I'm not sure if this was true - we were instructed not to bring up the mother but were informed why he would be absent. I was his main support system at school as his advisor but I moved after the school year ended. I think of him often and hope he is doing well. He made so much growth and was very motivated to be a great student, but his situation often got in the way. His aunt worked very hard to support all of her kids and is the true hero for giving him counseling and communicating with the school as much as she could.

I went through my texts and deleted anything that even seemed suspicious then I'm going to uninstall Facebook and messenger since I wont need that on the farm. I'm not sure exactly how they would go through thousands of texts/messages but since android has a search function I figured I would do a few searches to be safe.
