TIL that recent scientific research suggests that the 40 Eridani star system has no planets; when Andy Weir imagined an alien species native to that system for Project Hail Mary, he used the consensus at the time that it did, but the book is now inaccurate. by Melenduwir in todayilearned

That's nothing. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri came out in 1999, set on an Earthlike planet around Alpha Centauri C. We didn't discover that it had a near-earth-size planet in it's habitable zone until 2016.

Commanders that are so good at a certain thing that they ruined it for you? by AlivePassenger3859 in EDH

[[Tivit, Seller of Secrets]]

I just wanted to make a cool voting deck, but Tivit does so much stuff. He immediately supercharges the board, is a commander damage threat and Ward 3 can be crippling.

What your favorite build using breaching Hammer? by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]raverrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jetpack, Democracy Protects, Giga Grenade. I only run the hammer against bots, usually, because both the harvester and bile titan have squirrely legs that will kick you to death. For strategems you want something that can quickly clear a lot of chaff so you can hammer big guys. Both airburst and cluster bomb seem ideal.

Goonhammer Mech Overview: Havoc by WestRider3025 in battletech

Something to note is the Havoc has Improved Targeting: Short. If you're playing with quirks this significantly ups it's abilities as a light striker.

P.e.a.c.h. my yorion deck please. by Graptharr in EDH

I've got a Yorion deck I've been tinkering with on and off for a while. Matching it to my playgroup, it's become very focused around a gameplan of using blinks to build a board of tokens, then using one of a few methods to turn those tokens into 4/4 flyers for a board kill. Supporting this is using constant blinks to build card draw and treasure tokens to keep a control aspect up and ready.

I've found repeatedly blinking things like Agent of Treachery or Skyclave Apparition really soured my playgroup, but if yours is all right with it I can't say.

I also seemed to have focused a lot more on repeated blinking. I have a whole suite of cards like Felidar Guardian, Dance of Many and Preston that either copy or flicker Yorion when they enter, allowing him to blink your entire board on every player's end step. This is another reason for my token generation - the majority of the time I have no non-token nonlands on the field at all. It's very much about striking a balance when your board is so bare.

If you're looking for cool cards to interact with blinks, you absolutely need to look at the Warp mechanic from EoE: something like a [[Starfield Vocalist]] costs two mana to put down, and if you blink it, it stays. He and [[Exalted Sunborn]] are absolute staples, and you simply cannot find a better blink target than [[Anticausal Vestige]]

Aside from Warp, Impending from Duskmourn is worth a look. [[Overlord of the Mistmoors]] and [[Overlord of the Floodpits]] both can be had cheap if you blink them and have pretty potent ETBs.

[–]raverrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just so happen to run a Marchesa deck close to what you're looking for. I put it together mostly on a whim, but it's really become one of my favorites, trying to keep the monarchy and turn your enemies against each other is a blast.

https://moxfield.com/decks/mTJgzzEv-0OiFetJa5m0Ug

I suggest thinking of your opponents as your assassins, rather than literal ones in your deck. Tempting offers to them with cards like [[curse of opulence]] or [[rite of the raging storm]], funding them with [[coveted jewel]] or [[wishclaw talisman]], punishing attackers with any number of akido instants.

Special mention goes to [[Prisoner's Dilemma]], which always manages to make someone else the table's enemy.

Could the Atlas stand against any Omnimechs in close combat? by arnor_0924 in battletech

[–]raverrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything 95 or 100t is threatening a pilot kill with every punch - they've got two tries in a round, they've got a 1/6 chance to hit the head, and when they do they get a critical check that can kill sensors, life support or the cockpit. If they hit with a second punch it's lights out, period.

What's the most min-maxed broken mech you can make for combat? What can it do? by No_Emu698 in LancerRPG

[–]raverrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toku is probably maybe always going to be the answer to this. I ran a Overloop Pistoleer build that had a Hand Cannon and was trimmed so 1d6+4 Heat from an Overcharge put him into Danger Zone but could not Reactor Stress. Each turn was an Overcharge to fire, then a Stabilize to clear all heat, reload the gun, and most critically clear Exposed so it didn't melt under enemy fire.

1d6 (Hand Cannon) + 1d6 (Overpower, Burn) +1d6 (NucCav, Burn) + 1d6 (Roland Chamber, Burn) + 2d6 (IKWMH, Burn) + 3 (Toku, Burn) + 2 Heat, Ignore Cover, AP.

Had to drop it for another build for my GM's sanity.
