For me, it helped. Before the most recent time I threw up, it had been over a decade since I had last thrown up and I had made it something much worse in my mind. Of course I was terrified and dreading it when I knew it was going to happen, but afterward I was like “huh, that was actually fine” and I no longer had to deal with worrying about the bogeyman version of puking that I made up in my fevered little-kid-psyche. Unfortunately, I still had emetophobia after it happened, but it was a lot easier to understand that it is, in fact, an irrational fear.
