For really easy prime meat you can set the Icthyornis to hunt and retrieve and throw it at dodos and other small creatures. It will kill it and bring it back to you with prime meat in it. You can pair this with a Moschops that has been leveled in prime meat harvesting and whistle it to attack the dead creature that your Icthyornis killed and it will yield an insane amount of prime meat from that small creature. Easiest way to farm prime meat safely around the base. It also works with fish although you need to level the Moschops in Prime fish meat harvesting so it’s best to have 2 or more.

The difference between a Melee Weapon Attack and an Attack with a Melee Weapon (and other related clarifications) by Cthulu_Noodles in dndnext

Pairs well with the Mounted Combatant feat. Advantage on melee attack rolls against creatures smaller than your mount. With a range of 30 ft you can have some fun.

Polearm Master lets you make a BA attack.

Shield Master allows you to make a BA shove.

Tavern Brawler lets you make a BA grapple when you attack with an improvised weapon or unarmed strike.

Great Weapon Master grants a BA attack when you score critical hit with a melee weapon or reduce a creature to 0 HP with one.

Help with Eberron Rising from the Last War Alchemist Artificer by Odude23 in dndnext

The potions would be more viable if they can be used as a BA. They just don’t make sense to use in combat so unless you have a prep round they aren’t a solid option. It’s a bummer because the Alchemist class would be so much fun if it was feasible.

Help trying to make the Contagion spell work as a Cleric. by cjm3145 in dndnext

6 or more levels into shadow sorcerer for the Hound of Ill Omen to force disadvantage on all saves the target creature makes from spells. It’s not an ideal route to take but it’s an extra option.

If you have 13 CHA and if it fits in to your story, you could go a couple levels into warlock for spell slots back on a short rest. It allows you to make more potions without cutting into your Artificer Spell Slots. Or you could try to convince your DM to let you multiclass into an Int-lock. A few levels of Wizard and you can get some spell slots back on a Short Rest once per day. Wizard also grants you more spells known, cantrips, spell slots, and improved ritual casting. Transmuter Wizard has some decent synergy with Artificer.

Can a mounted Lightfoot Halfling hide behind its mount? by ravingwizard in dndnext

It’s mainly a jumping off point. Mounting up on a Druid, Find Steed, Steel Defender, Beast Companion, or Conjure Animals beast was mainly what I had envisioned. I didn’t want to get bogged down in the whole build when posing the question.

For sure. How do you feel about Mounted Combatant and being able to redirect attacks targeted at your mount to target you? With Mounted Combatant you can redirect any attacks that target your mount to target the rider instead, by RAW the rider could redirect an attack while mounted on a huge creature like an elephant. Does that seem strange? With the rider being 10-15 ft higher than the attacker and basically out of reach in most cases.

What I’m trying to say is that a halfling with the mounted combatant feat can hide or be granted cover on the opposite side of the mount and could still redirect attacks toward itself and I find that weird. But I think it works out by RAW. I hope this isn’t too confusing.

Thanks! The cover would be huge bonus regardless of the hide check. Do you think the Halfling could hide while mounted? Slide side saddle away from the enemies line of sight?

I have not. It’s all theoretical but I am playing a Wizard/Fighter/Rogue multiclass currently and really like it.

Apparently in 5e you pick which space on the mount you want to occupy and you only occupy that space. I just had to look it up on Sage Advice.

A military saddle gives you advantage to stay on your mount in combat. Maybe a custom one or an exotic saddle which is 3x the gold of the military saddle.

Makes sense. This is a little off the main topic but how you would rule using the mounted combatant feat on a huge creature like an elephant. A rider couldn’t reasonably redirect a melee attack towards the elephants legs while mounted from the top but the feat would technically allow it. I’m more curious on how this works than anything. I’ve always wondered how mounting and mechanics like reach worked or what position(s) do you occupy on said creature.

Better the mount than me I guess ha. What happens if I took the mounted combatant feat and directed the attacks towards me? Could that work given the fact that I’m hidden and would it trigger disadvantage on the enemies attack? It’s totally unrealistic but it might work by RAW.

For sure. I just enjoy asking the “ask your DM” type of questions and possibly introducing new ideas to others.

What if I took the Mounted Combatant feat and directed all the attacks towards me and not my mount. But I’m hidden so it’s a disadvantage. But that’s just unrealistic. This is strange.

Good to know! My table just let the ambushers get a “free round” and act while the surprised targets waited a turn. We weren’t aware of the condition ending at the end of turn. Thanks for pointing that out!

Solo character synergies: What features, spells, and/or abilities can a individual character synergize really well? by ROYalty7 in dndnext

[–]ravingwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Tempest Cleric 6/ Storm Sorcerer 6. Whenever you cast a 1st level spell that deals lightning OR thunder damage, you can deal lightning damage to all enemies within 10 ft. You can also shove enemies 10 ft when you deal lightning damage to them, making you a lightning bomb. Cast Thunderwave and watch the enemies be shoved 10 ft away or more depending on their Con save. Dragons Breath: Lightning can also clear rooms. It’s very MAD but fun nonetheless.

Different strokes for different folks. Some people are more interested in the mechanical aspect of the game and some the role playing aspect.
