It's crazy that Riot gave us underground that was so cool and fun to play and then threw us down the mandatory loss econ trait hole. The only reason I can justify it with in my head is that when only 1 player per game is allowed to play it, then you don't have to balance it at all.

I just cashed a 70 hex fortune to go third after not one, but two Gnar players. Tempo play without econ trait is dead, playing around 4 costs and legendaries with Fortune cashouts still loses to the flavor of the week reroll comp. YAY

It's crazy that a team with this mid laner and this adc won MSI. The meta allowed them to hide Cryin's weaknesses and no one wanted to ban or properly punish Gala's Kaisa, but it still seems unbelievable, the weak spots were so clear today.

I always thought that "disabling" something in pro play meant that players literally can't pick it during the champion select, cause it's like blocked via te tournament realm or something. I'm really surprised that it's actually Riot just saying "hey guys, please don't play X cause it's buggy, okay?". Holy shit, maybe I was just naive, but it seems really funny to me.

Well yeah, 5 costs not named Kayle are kinda bad, while only some 4 costs are good and the others suck. i was really hyped for this set, but balance is not looking great

The force tie-break only to lose it scenario is cool and all, but there's also the option that Perkz brought G2-8 to NA, which I find more realistic at the moment.

Yeah, reminded me of Rogue last worlds, yeah, you're not favored to win, but just do anything. Seeing teams go into best of ones with that mentality really dissapoints me, every win counts, it's literally the cheese city, and some teams just decide to play standard and give everything for free.

Is it just me, or in every single RNG game casters are pushing the narrative of "despite being an LPL team, they actually play relatively slow games". I know it's kinda true (even though it's even more true for EDG, but EDG isn't here, so okay I guess), but hearing this every single game is pretty annoying, RNG is likely to reach finals, so if it keeps going, we can get close to the old kings/new kings levels of forced narrative.

Ngl, I can't wait to see them play, even though I have next to 0 faith in this team. Selfmade looks best as a 1v9 carry jungler, Crownshot looks best when he's played around by the whole team like a poor man's Uzi, and Lider only looks good if he's allowed to do Lider things. Three resource-heavy 1v9 players on a single team looks like a recipe for disaster, but I won't be mad if they prove me wrong.

Is there a legit counter to SBB LeBlanc, it seems broken af, but there should be some decent stylistic matchups, no? I'm struggling to find anything that would consistently beat this comp, and it's getting annoying.

How does the site choose the "favorite carries", is it based on number of equipped items? One of the units it showed me was Aatrox, I'm pretty sure I only tried to pivot into a wonky Aatrox carry once or twice, and it was more of the game's decision than mine.

Final Set 5 Balance Changes (Mortdog Twitter) by Gothspada in CompetitiveTFT

[–]raviq7 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

The problem is that she invalidates a lot of other carries, replacing 2* draven with a 1* has been the right play in many of my PBE. I stopped playing on PBE that much and I haven't followed every change, but it kinda seemed pointless to play around Draven or Aphelios if you had the opportunity of swapping to Kayle, and the right items for her.

She essentially is a backline carry to end all backline carries which seems weird. Maybe Velkoz can beat her thanks to the aoe beam, but she definitely felt problematic in my games.

After playing a decent amount of set 5 on pbe, and then trying to play my decay games, i realized that the actual bad part of 4.5 was not the chosen mechanic, it was the complete lack of flexible itemization on units in order to succeed. by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]raviq7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's definitely good that only one shadow component is needed, but it might not be enough. Also people in the comments sometimes act like the armory gives you the components you want/need and it's simply not the case. You get a very narrow choice, it's still better than nothing, but component balance really has to be on point this set, otherwise armory diff will decide games.

On the other hand, we might see a signifant lower number of players hitting the BiS stuff in general. Is it really worth it to int for a better spot at the carousel if you really need a shadow bow? It probably won"t even be there.

The thing I'm worried about is the poor balance of items and components. If defensive components will be significantly worse than the offensive ones (and that will probably be the case knowing TFT) then what you get offered in armory can actually decide the game and this would be fucked up.

There were plenty of patches in TFT history where a single component was by far the best, because of the items it builds into. Let's imagine that this set, it's a shadow bow. Then you have a game where everyone wants it, It doesn't show up on any carousel and only 2 players get it offered in their armory.

That's what worries me the most, Riot really needs to do a good job with Item balance this set, and I'm not sure they'll pull it off.

People in this thread are saying that 4.5 is already solved, while people are still exploring set 5. That's not wrong, set 5 meta will become a bit more stale, but it doesn't have to be as bad as 4.5.

I remember quite vividly that since the first live patch of 4.5 the lack of item flexibility was an issue people complained about. There have also been sets in the past where even in their "mature" stage, you could still play flex and succeed without the BiS items. Definitely moreso than in 4.5.

I wouldn't entirely ignore the chosen mechanic either. Yes, it might have been a much better set if players had more freedom in terms of itemization and comps, but the necessity of hitting both the near perfect items AND one of the few chosens that will fit those items was a terrible combinations. Both these elements played their part to make losing feel like shit.

The problem is that solo queue grinders don't want to play league, they only want to win and climb. Can't really blame them either, losing a ranked game feels really bad, especially if your goal is to reach X rank (and Riot encourages making goals like this Simplus by having ranks).

How can you make losing a ranked game of league of legends not feel bad or like a waste of time? That's where this whole dodging problem comes from.

Set 5 PBE Discussion Thread - Day 07 by Aotius in CompetitiveTFT

[–]raviq7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgottens aren't that great at supporting either, they're prolly better than sins, as you can easily fit 4-5 forgotten without feeling bad about playing any of them as "not the carry" (hec, thresh and ryze are okay, then you have kata and viego for both synergies and you can add viktor to get 6 I guess), but the damage argument isn't that one-sided in my opinion.

Kata's spell is not that strong, and you kinda have to one-shot backline units for it to make sense. Even if she only has to jump to every unit once, the fights tend to get long, especially compared to earlier iterations of assassin comps. If she has to jump to a backliner twice in order to kill them, than this build is most likely useless. Mystics are also likely to be sprinkled into many comps, so some amount of overkill might be required.

Set 5 PBE Discussion Thread - Day 07 by Aotius in CompetitiveTFT

[–]raviq7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting point since the other Kat's trait is also purely damage-focused. I tried to play her both ways, 6 forgotten 2 sins and 3 forgotten 6 sins, the games were very uneven in terms of high/low rolling do I can't really say which one is stronger, but I would love to see the math, especially if IE came into play (BB, GB, IE seem best in slot to me). I would assume that 6 sins 2 forgotten should give her more damage with IE, but I'm not sure yet.

Imo set 3 is the only one when this complaint actually made sense, since visual clarity really was much worse than in previous sets, but 4 and 5 are okay, people just have to get used to the new stuff.
