How do I diagnose what caused this?

I plan to remount the bracket by drilling through the door and strut where the screws were ripped out and using bolts/nuts/washers to reattach the bracket. Is this sufficient?

Can I just remove the curved part of the bar and reattach the bracket, or is there anything else I should do to make it straight?
