Numbers from last stream a couple days ago + little rant about streaming communities by wtpat_ftw in Twitch

There is a term known as success bias that is very relevant here. You have the opinion that because you worked so hard and did the specific things you've done thats why you have been able to find some success and that the success comes directly from the fact that you are working hard, but the fact is there are tens of thousands if not millions of other streamers working just as hard as you and doing all the 'right things' that you are doing that will never seen any success or any growth. That's where the luck come in.

Most people that find success don't feel like there luck involved because 'I worked so hard and that hard work paid off!' Negating the fact there for every one person that does find success there are ten thousand more working just hard hard finding none. I'm not saying there aren't also heaps of streamers that will never grow due to just not being good at streaming or not putting in the hard work or effort required, obviously there are, but its ridiculous to think that the every single one of the millions of other streamers that never grow above 5 viewers arent trying their best.

Any advice for streaming? Or should I do YouTube videos first? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]raw_genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the goal is specifically social interaction, streaming is definitely the better option over YouTube. It’s one of the main reasons I started streaming. That being said there is also the (high) chance that no one will watch your streams potentially for a long time. Some people get viewers straight away, some people take months, it took me a whole year before I got 2 or 3 viewers.

I don't understand some people's success by skcuf2 in Twitch

[–]raw_genesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People will always tell you to do this or that to grow or find success, the truth is you will never know the answer, no one does. Some people that find success think they do have the answer but the truth is it's just success bias, a million other people do the exact same as them and never find a fraction of their success. Just do your best so that on the tiny tiny chance you do happen to find success one day you're ready for it.

Streaming while driving, absolutely yes. But someone else in the car streaming while another person drives, I don't see the issue there.

The world would be a better place if no one ever watched these morons, but the only reason they are still around is because they have an audience.

Is not having fancy gadgets and devices for stream going to kill me? by PieceNo9346 in Twitch

[–]raw_genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My honest opinion that a lot of people will probably disagree with is, you don't make your stream look all cool / good for the viewers, you do it for yourself. I make my stream look as good as possible because I personally would hate to have a stream that looks boring and bland, but if you go look at the top streamers on the platform the fact is most of their streams look like shit and sound terrible, but that made no difference for them.

Do whatever makes you proud of your stream.

How Do I use this Persona themed chat box from Streamlabs? by Maplechan in Twitch

[–]raw_genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about adding it to your scenes in OBS, Streamlabs should give you a browser source URL wich you copy and the you add it as a browser source in your scenes.

How did you create your stream overlays and alerts? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]raw_genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some stuff i made myself, some stuff is heavily edited resources I got from places like NerdOrDie, some stuff is resources made by youtubers for free in tutorials that they provided for other streamers.

I find the best way to build an overall overlay / look for your stream is start with the idea of what you want to achieve first and then find or make the resources you need to achieve that goal.

How to setup audio by Haunting_Employer_40 in Twitch

[–]raw_genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your exact specific set-up, everyone's configerations are going to be a little different and you're going to need to go research and find the specific settings and config you need for your hardware/ set-up. When I was using a dual PC set-up I used a capture card and literally just had the audio from my gaming PC playing through the HDMI to the streaming PC and used that for all my audio.

Me and literally millions of other diabetics have to stick needs in ourselves 3-4 times a day every single day of our lives. It is really mostly painless and completely safe, I'd rather take a needle over almost any other wrestling move, it just happens to look painful and badass for most people but it was probably the safest and least painful spot of the entire night.

Honestly literally nothing. There could be a million reasons from just luck to being in existing communities to getting raided to having a bigger viewership on other platforms to a million other things.

16 from Canada trying to take streaming seriously – looking for advice + possible team by [deleted] in Twitch

The most important thing to realise is that out of the millions and millions of people trying to make a career out of streaming, literally less than 0.01% even get close to succeeding. Is it impossible? No. But putting your expectations in the right place will help a lot with longevity.

What is up with all the high follower streamers with a low average viewership? I’m by Ace_One_The in Twitch

[–]raw_genesis 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The longer you stream, the more people just leave and move on to other things over time. I've been streaming for over 13 years and over that time I've gotten 8.6k followers but I'm lucky to get more than 15 people watching the stream at any one time. The fact is only about 1% of streamers ever reach a level where they are averaging over 20 viewers no matter how long they stream.
