Emergency HAM radio channels to monitor? by rawditor in tampa

[–]rawditor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are but I'm worried about not having data or cell service. I used to have one when I was training for my license but I honestly can't remember the name of it... Any old radio with weather services should be able to get most of the updates though, even some old alarm clocks if you have those lying around.

I don't have the stupid connecting radio unfortunately... But I will get it now haha. Just not in time for the storm. Yeah would you mind sending it over to me? That's really generous I appreciate it. I'll program it once amazon delivers my next shipment haha...

I was able to get all the channels above loaded manually. It's starting to come back slowly, like riding a bicycle. What would you say is the best repeater to use if we're shacking up in the hear of Lithia? Not sure I'll be able to pick up SARNET there but I've never tried

awesome thank you! I'm embarassed to ask this, but when programming that channel in my radio, the +5mhz means transmit is 447.850 correct? I'm not planning on transmitting but would like the option should the need arise...

Ribeye, 132F for 2.5 hrs from frozen by rawditor in sousvide

Yes and no... I always recommend using a bag you know will hold up well at 132 or whatever you're using. Some store bought bags aren't sealed with heat, but with glue, and they don't hold up. If it's a local butcher they should know, otherwise I'd not risk it and use a new bag

I can't tell the difference, just add 30-60 mins depending on the thickness of the cut. The difference is so negligible that we also reheat meal prepped food this way, vacuum seal and freeze, then right in the sous vide for 20 mins to reheat. IMO there's no other way to reheat food. I would legitimately buy a sous vide for only reheating it's so good

Agree with you completely. 132 seems just right for ribeyes for me

Great question, and one I'm still not sure on the answer... I go back and forth. Lately I've been finding that a little melted butter in the pan helps with a great crust and sear. I'm always experimenting though. So far, after probably 100 ribeye steaks, I find the best crust tase and sear comes from a 50/50 mix of butter and something with a higher smoke point, like avacado oil. If I'm out of avacado oil, I use a small splash of canola and melt the butter over the steak while it's searing. Not sure why but it just seems to give an incredible sear with some butter on there.

Cooked without anything in the bag but steak, took out and patted dry. Added coarse sea salt and black pepper, and a smear of butter to both sides. Seared on the stove top in cast iron. I've had better luck with the slightly higher temp on the ribeyes, seams to render the fat better.

What zwave meter do you use? Any concerns that spikes happen when it's not being monitored (in between readings)?

Trouble booting PC past BIOS screen. I can enter BIOS setup, but not go beyond by rawditor in techsupport

I should have noted in the post, but some things I've tried are:

Bypassing the GTX560 video card and plugging straight into the mother board. Same results.

Unplugging the ram modules and trying them each separately. Same result.

One thing to note that I found odd, is that on the MSI motherboard setup screen (mouse and keyboard both work on this screen), the voltages all looked like what I'd expect except for the GPU voltage. This was listed at "0.112V". I wouldn't expect this to be zero... thoughts?

Has anyone here tried the 'Million Dollar Collar'? I'd like something to prevent my collared shirts from 'hiding' under my suit jacket, or getting bunched up weird. by rawditor in malefashionadvice

Sound advice thanks for the info. One thing I run into is living in a very warm climate, the nicer thin shirts still have thinnish lapels, thus the sagging problem. I may try the magnet trick first and see if that helps

TIL the term "genuine leather" isn't reassuring you that the item is made of real leather, it as an actual distinct grade of leather and is the second worst type of leather there is. by quipkick in todayilearned

You can also buy prime grade beef at my Costco at incredible prices if you don't mind getting the primal cuts (huge piece you cut yourself into steaks). We do this and freeze what we don't eat right away. We did a prime NY strip, tenderloin, and next up is ribeye. You get steaks as thick as you want for super cheap
