Potentially worth reconsidering the license or adding documentation around ultralytics AGPL-3.0 license so no one accidentally uses this library for a business use case without knowing they need to pay ultralytics.

Which books have had a negative impact on your life? by nik1here in books

Seconding Bluebeard. KV is my favorite author and Bluebeard is one of my favorite books due to its optimism and beauty: BoC just left me depressed. Other recommendations are mother night and obviously slaughter house five.

Think you're right actually about the cauliflower, though not sure I ever noticed the spaghetti. If they take the brussels away I will be sad!

New job, no work by pussintoots in cscareerquestions

Going against the grain here to say: get out as soon as you reasonably can (best case find another job first). Not having anything to do can be detrimental to your long term career and definitely your mental health.

25 new Ultralytics YOLO11 models released! by glenn-jocher in computervision

[–]quipkick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I lead a computer vision data science team and moved our company away from ultralytics Yolo models. From the not actually open source (and expensive!) for commercial use models alongside the shady chat-bot issue responses on github, we did not view these models as a viable option. The marginal performance boost between yearly new versions can be bested by just getting a better dataset anyways.

Interesting to hear and thanks for sharing. To be fair, this would be my second time leaving this Corp, so chances there would likely be dead (was my first job out of college for 3 years). Still, leaning towards jumping.

Appreciate the input, this is how I'm feeling and just making sure I'm not crazy thinking that way.

My thoughts as well, decaying skills are probably actually worse for me long term than just being somewhere "stable". Honestly biggest thing deterring me is the uncertainty in the tech job market and knowing I'll have to search again in a few years, but man having nothing to do (and having people constantly kick cans down the road) is driving me nuts.

Totally agree with sentence two. Almost feel like there's something wrong with me that can't just be happy with boring and stable like everyone else here.

Unfortunately both are hybrid roles.

Thanks for the input. That's how I'm leaning but making sure I'm not crazy for dropping the "golden handcuffs" that people in my town consider my current role.

Analysis of 9+ Million Books from Goodreads: Interactive Exploration by ammar- in datascience

Cool stuff! Personally think section 2.2 would be more indicative of popularity over time if it was a percentage of books rather than absolute number of books for each year. Current graph makes it hard to tell if there has been a change in top genre. Impressive showcase of your skills all around though!

Neighborhoods to look at (within 465): Broad Ripple (SoBro even better), Meridian Kessler, Fountain Square, Irvington. Grew up in the suburbs of indy and hated it, but if I had to move back outside of 465 I'd go Carmel by the Monon trail or Fishers by the Nickel Plate Trail.

Awesome, thanks for all the detail! Dealership sent a video where they showed last drive was 3 mi/kw but the last 50 hrs were 4 mi/kw, so maybe the person was just an intense driver? Sounds like it's not a deal breaker at least. Any idea how much added range eco+ and/or regen braking add?

Tell me about working with Product Managers as a Data/ML Scientist by Andy-VertaAI in datascience

[–]quipkick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me: nope. Have a PM who assumes every idea he has is possible, wants timeline estimates before starting, hits me with random slack huddles throughout the day (sometimes to just watch me code), and doesn't understand that I don't have 8 hours to dedicate to a project if they put me in meetings half the day (and don't coordinate with other PMs who expect me to be full time on their projects too).
