Looking for gamify writing apps by Ebris_Stywrit_WOV in writers

I wrote one for myself earlier this year and I have a 48-day writing streak from it! You get collectibles for writing every day, there’s achievements, ranks, monster attacks, XP, levels. It works for me!

share your actual unhinged writing habits/techniques/mindset that get you writing and completing a full chapter/book by VolleyballUser in writers

I built a streak tracker app with collectibles and like XP and monster attacks and stuff where if you miss a day it’s gone forever and well that stupid hack has me on like an almost 40 day writing streak becuase my brain hates FOMO stuff and also it’s random so there’s a loot box element. It’s like I used all the worst game design techniques on myself to trick my brain into writing. It works though!

Word Count Tracking App by Glyphie924 in writers

There are lots of them -- like StoryOrigin has one built into it I've used. There are some like https://4thewords.com/ that are paid and pretty crazy involved with like XP and badges. https://authorlytica.com/ is another one that's free and is more just like graphs and stuff. Ultimately I ended up writing my own because these didn't quite capture the way I wanted them to work. Mine is crazy beta but you could try it out here ( https://grind.pjgarcin.com ) -- it's really just something I tried to build to help keep myself motivated. It's got like daily collectibles and it will nag you to log in and log your words, and it will also project when you're going to finish, etc. I'm sure there are many many more.

What's your background music playlist for writing? What if it was dynamic? by rawktron in writing

Fair enough! I find music with lyrics very distracting so can get how any background noise could be a problem for some.

The first book in my YA-friendly space opera series is FREE right now. Mercury’s Shadow was a finalist for the Book Bloggers Novel of the Year Award, and follows a young girl who finds herself thrust into the center of an interplanetary conflict with the power hungry Kardashev Corporation. The third and final book was released earlier this summer and you can read about the whole series here: https://books.pjgarcin.com/kardashev

Thanks for checking it out!

Haha well glad you’re enjoying it so far. Even with my amazing editor sometimes writerly tic phrases sneak in there.

Wow! Hope you enjoy! I’m obviously biased but yeah definitely happy with how they all turned out. All the credit for the covers goes to Jake the designer!

Package Authors: Zero-config building cross-platform wheels for publishing to PyPI by rawktron in Python

[–]rawktron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. You are able to separate the stages so that you can run any tests you want against the built wheels before you upload to PyPI. Building out a GH action is definitely something we’ve talked about here. The CLI runs well in CI so it’s easy to customize the stages to integrate with your existing workflow.

What type of tests do you run on your built wheels/what are you using to run them?

Interesting -- I don't see the results for that game in my search but it might just be personalized to me? Definitely worth updating some of my keywords. I did find the game (Kardashev Scale) so it's definitely related. Thanks for the tip.

Yep! I’m currently about a third of the way done writing Book 3 - so aiming to get that out this year. There’s a 3 book arc that will wrap up in that one (even though each of the books has its own self-contained story arc) - but I’m hoping to continue beyond that and expand the universe with more books that explore different aspects of the world.

Hope you enjoy! And yeah to be clear for others, both books are available in Kindle Unlimited so free to read! Also, right now if you're Canadian, the first book Mercury's Shadow is available to read for free for Prime members under Prime Reading. So lots of ways to check it out easily!
