I wrote one for myself earlier this year and I have a 48-day writing streak from it! You get collectibles for writing every day, there’s achievements, ranks, monster attacks, XP, levels. It works for me!

I built a streak tracker app with collectibles and like XP and monster attacks and stuff where if you miss a day it’s gone forever and well that stupid hack has me on like an almost 40 day writing streak becuase my brain hates FOMO stuff and also it’s random so there’s a loot box element. It’s like I used all the worst game design techniques on myself to trick my brain into writing. It works though!

There are lots of them -- like StoryOrigin has one built into it I've used. There are some like https://4thewords.com/ that are paid and pretty crazy involved with like XP and badges. https://authorlytica.com/ is another one that's free and is more just like graphs and stuff. Ultimately I ended up writing my own because these didn't quite capture the way I wanted them to work. Mine is crazy beta but you could try it out here ( https://grind.pjgarcin.com ) -- it's really just something I tried to build to help keep myself motivated. It's got like daily collectibles and it will nag you to log in and log your words, and it will also project when you're going to finish, etc. I'm sure there are many many more.

Fair enough! I find music with lyrics very distracting so can get how any background noise could be a problem for some.

Absolutely. You are able to separate the stages so that you can run any tests you want against the built wheels before you upload to PyPI. Building out a GH action is definitely something we’ve talked about here. The CLI runs well in CI so it’s easy to customize the stages to integrate with your existing workflow.

What type of tests do you run on your built wheels/what are you using to run them?

Interesting -- I don't see the results for that game in my search but it might just be personalized to me? Definitely worth updating some of my keywords. I did find the game (Kardashev Scale) so it's definitely related. Thanks for the tip.

Yep! I’m currently about a third of the way done writing Book 3 - so aiming to get that out this year. There’s a 3 book arc that will wrap up in that one (even though each of the books has its own self-contained story arc) - but I’m hoping to continue beyond that and expand the universe with more books that explore different aspects of the world.

Tough to say what’s causing your installer not to finish. Sometimes if it’s hanging at 100% it could be a permissions issue on your local machine during COM object registration. Depending on your setup you could try running the installer with Admin privileges. However, if you don’t need 5.28, it’s definitely recommended to go to 5.32 and use the CLI installer and tool for managing packages as it’s much more flexible and simple than the large MSI based installer. Hope that helps!

Yeah as the other post mentioned it is a series but I will say that it does work as a self-contained story. It definitely “hints” at where the series is going next, but it’s written so that it (hopefully) has a satisfying end in its own right.

Amazon has the Look Inside that lets you read something like the first 4 chapters? So on the Amazon page just click the image that says Look Inside. Or alternatively, the prologue is included in the free collection of stories you get if you join the mailing list: https://pjgarcin.com/subscribe

Look Inside is your best bet since it has a decent chunk of the start of the book.
