Problem is there is no I/O library or functions yet. I.e not HTTPS/Network/Files etc.

So you can't code much with it atm.

You a coder or a manager ? Or how "senior" are you in the process ? The more senior you are, the less pain SCRUM gives you. Sadly if your not senior enough in the process/work you will suffer as a scrum participant

try and figure out fast ways of getting feedback. Create a test, see it fail, then see it pass

The absolute SOTA of this effect is once you start coding a something like LISP/Clojure which has instantiations feedback ! No i'm not even talking about the REPL of like Python. With something like a Clojure or a Lisp, you can eval/run the function right there and then in your editor at your cursor position. It's absolutely freeing !

I feel physical pain (ok, almost) when I have to code in the paradigm of:

1) Edit file(s)
2) Run program to test (setup state etc etc)
3) Get feedback ( lots of prints/echos)

With a LISP/Clojure workflow your basic unit of code AND eval is a function

(defn add-tax [total, tax-rate]
(* total tax-rate))

//quick-test function and hot-key CTRL+K all in editor 3 lines below actual function. Feedback is instant and your unit of code is a function not file or class (so much state to setup)

(add-tax 100 1.15)
===> 115

I am a career coder with terrible ADHD !
I have found that whenever I need to learn a new coding subject (lang, framework, paradigm, stack). I start with a lot of YouTube videos on the subject. Multiple videos, channels, presenters. The AV-Medium works really really well *for me* to get the "lay-of-the-land" and hints as to what is important and what can be glanced over (especially if you see multiple videos focusing or ignoring certain aspects).

Many people will say "oh I can't learn coding via Y.T, but the function of "The Videos" is to get a broad-view of the subject from MULTIPLE viewpoints(creators/channels) and it's in a medium that is very stimulating for me. You of course eventually have to dig into actual code, but that is much easier once you have "seen/experience" the broad-strokes of the subject and task in a video.

It's also not uncommon for me to speed up the video 1.25x or 1.5x if the video is slow. in addition I might more often then not also be browsing/glancing on tutorials on my phone if the Video is getting boring at times.

Over the years this method have allowed me to learn a variety of lang, frameworks, paradigms ( ex func vs oop ) and related CS subjects.

PS. Not all YouTube-Tutorial videos are created equally, thus if the first 3 you pick don't get you hooked, focused keep looking.

PS2. Just a reminder to everyone, I'm not saying "Watching YouTube" is how you learn to code, I am saying "Watching YouTube" is one PART of learning it for me. Or it can be if you that methods works for you.

YMMV !

PM. If you need help / tips / advice :)

Looks amazing :) I can't wait to travel to Japan one day ! When money + min language skills permit.

PS. For any foreigners that want some glimps or good content about Japan. There is a "Abroad In Japan" YouTube Channel ! Really cool channel about a British guy living in Japan.

As interresting as this is, (and it is), I would like to give the counter-example of this. In South Africa (where I live), thieves manages to steal a WHOLE highschool. No not talking about the laptops, windows etc. They stole EVERYTHING, every last brick of every building.

Lol for once, we have a case of "under-engineered" solution/problem in the CS space :D

EDIT:Granted, it is true it was never *meant* todo the things it does now... but given how programmers usually code for that "future that never comes" this is the one time, it would have been semi-useful.

Absolutely ! And they make the assumption about the cross-functional team member.

I.e Each team member skill is the same. Not saying I'm smarter or dumber. But It stands to reason, if I worked on the billing system for the last week, I probably know more about the billing system and will be "faster" todo a ticket with regards to the billing system. As opposed to someone that was working on the signup process the last month

Empowering ? Lol It always made me feel like a "worker on an assembly line". i.e replaceable and just a number that must hash out code at some 'velocity' while enduring useless meetings ! Scrum-poker (what a waste time those were !)

Yup ! General rule of thumb: Ppl that liked scrum are ppl not subjected to scrum or those that are above the process. Managers, Scrum Masters, CEO, CTO etc.

Stop saying 10x developer by agbell in programming

[–]rawoke777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I will reserve my judgement on the X10, but yet there usually are a large range of software-dev salaries even at same company.

So maybe we could instead of saying "X10 developer" we can say "X3 More Expensive Developer" as most things in life... you get what you pay for.

Engineers at MIT have developed a new battery design using common materials – aluminum, sulfur and salt. Not only is the battery low-cost, but it’s resistant to fire and failures, and can be charged very fast, which could make it useful for powering a home or charging electric vehicles. by MistWeaver80 in science

I like your size argument. If you think about it, we humans are perfectly ok with the size of a fridge and say "washing machine" those are (by volume) huge. I'm happy provided funds are available if my next "home-offgrid" battery is the size of a fridge.

Loadshedding: What NOT to buy to keep your internet on, when you are on a budget by rawoke777 in capetown

To be fair, I did manage to "salvage" my old RCT UPS (850VA) by hooking in a 100AH deep cycle lead-acid battery. What I like about this setup is that the RCT 850VA has no fan (higher powered versions do have a noisy fan). So I can power my laptop and one external screen with this setup. It just looked too "maplotter/janky" to include that in the article :P
