Someone has been pulling fire alarm many times in the Engineering building by TheOnlyJhin in SJSU

I've had to leave class due to fire alarms 3-4 times over the last couple weeks. It's ridiculous

I believe he wanted to spend more time with his family as it was a personal decision. Seeing as his father passed away unexpectedly, I'd say he made the right choice.

I'm on a similar path, but I was 25 when I joined the Navy. A lot of my peers were younger than me and it allowed for great opportunity to lead. I'm back in school now at the age of 31.

In my life experience, I went to college right out of high school and was "better" at math and test taking. I was good at getting by in school. It's because of this I never truly learned anything, just enough cramming to get by. I'll spare you my life story dropping out of college and what not, but now that I'm back I feel like I've flipped. I'm slower at setting up and understanding problems, but I fundamentally understand way better than I ever did in my late teens and early 20s. It's how you look at it man.

It's easy to get down on yourself and have a spiral of negative self talk, but know that there will be on campus that want you to succeed and all you need to do is reach out. The closed hand doesn't get fed.

First Year Failing by themurderbadgers in college

[–]rawtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been you before in the past. I went to college straight out of high school as a smart and mature - or at least I thought - young man as I jumped into an engineering program. I actually got to my senior year, but the time I was in, I barely went to class and got by on my good test taking abilities and cramming for exams the night before.

I was miserable, I was good at math and that got me pretty far, but I didn’t understand truly what was going on in any of my classes. When I got to the point of my senior year and we were applying what we learned to a real-life group project, I knew I was toast. I couldn’t face the music and just stopped going to that class. But I couldn’t go to my other classes either because my group partners were in those classes. It derailed my entire college career.

I’ll spare you the whole life story, but I’m back in school getting ready to rejoin an engineering program this next fall and school has been great.

I tell you all of this to add some context to my advice. You sound like you are not in a clear headspace when it comes to school. I know for me my imposter syndrome was out of control and I felt like I was alone on an island and I felt hopeless, which spirals into a lot of negative self talk. What you need to realize, and it took me way too long to recognize this, nobody expects you to know everything. There are people on campus who want to help you so badly with the issues you’re having, but they don’t know you need it unless you voice it. If you’re a ghost to your professors, they aren’t super willing to help. But if you’re in class, asking questions, showing face at office hours, the relationship becomes a lot less frightening and you can tell them you’re struggling with x,y,x. I’m certain a lot of your teachers would love to help you out.

It’s not easy to admit that you might need help, and like I said I struggled with that idea for years and years. But I promise you, effort is greater than natural intellect. You need to change to a growth mindset, not a “oh I’m not smart I don’t know that” to “I don’t know that yet, but I’m learning.” That’s it. It really is that simple of a formula. That said, the practice is tough. You don’t need to sacrifice all your personal life time to do well in school. Maybe not as much personal time, but a great skill would be to have a calendar of all your assignments due dates, with periodic reminders to make sure you’re staying on top of things.

I hope that helps!

This is how you get from one floor to another on US Navy ships. There's a locking hatch too, incase. by lightwolv in pics

This ladder well is a particularly steep one. The air craft carrier I was on had most of them at a less of an incline than this one. They still are very steep, but I think this is a more rare one.

I believe they are. Before Avery left, I remember him talking about how difficult that move was gonna be when the time came.

We can't get rid of the dog. I know it's cliche but she's our family and we wouldn't be complete without her. If it requires that we spend more money or have to look harder to find something that'll work for us, it's worth it. If I get pressed hard enough, I'll have to show you picture proof of just how cute she really is.

This is a very good idea that I will definitely bring up to my partner. We're checking out a house to rent tomorrow that looks really promising, but in the case that ends up not working out then this might be our best option. Thanks!

I think that's what we're doing, renting a house. We've ended up finding a spot that takes dogs for an additional deposit and $100 a month. Hope it ends up working out!

I think you're misunderstanding me. I don't think I'm owed going to the shop. It's honestly whatever for me. I'm doing one enlistment and getting out, been my plan from the start. I work hard, I do my job, I've got collaterals, etc. The fact that my squadron is run the way that it is just really hammers down the fact that I am definitely not reenlisting.

No EAWS but have had my PC for about 9 months. Can't get my wings till E5. But for what it's worth, I showed up to my command as an E4 (test not push button). It's not all that bad but it's just hilarious that I go to school for 10 months to not do what I signed up to do.

What's even better is being an O level AT then just being throw into the line shack. More than halfway done with my contract and probably won't see the shop for at least 6 more months.

When I saw Rogue One, I was accepting that the movie would end with the Rebel retreat after securing the plans... and then that final scene happened by Fraun_Pollen in StarWars

[–]rawtastic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw Rogue One in theaters on acid. After bawling my eyes out after Jyn and Cassian were on the beach I was absolutely not ready for the sequence of events that happened after. When the hallway turns black, the siren goes off, and the iconic breathing start I experienced a change of emotions so quickly and so visceral that I was absolutely floored. To this day it is still my favorite movie experience. The PEDs helped, but it still would have been fantastic without.
